The school is an exciting, stimulating, and innovative place to learn and we take huge satisfaction in knowing our young people well, in striving for improvement, and in providing them with an environment in which they feel safe, well-supported, and encouraged to succeed. We ensure that we meet the differing needs of our pupils by adapting to the environment and having specialist teams and resources working throughout the school.
Our pupils deserve the very best educational opportunities, and we endeavor to help them achieve their best in terms of their learning, independence, confidence, and motivation which are central to our ethos. We do this in partnership with the many professionals and other organizations with whom we work and chiefly, we aim to work in partnership with parents who know their children best. We are approachable and supportive parents are always welcome to contact us to arrange a meeting to discuss their child’s provision and progress.
Your children are unique. We feel honored to assist their development during their school years and can assure you that we will do whatever we can to make their time here happy and successful. At John Chilton School, we strive for the development of confident, motivated, and independent learners in a sociable, safe and accessible environment supported by communication and engagement between home, school and partnerships.
We aim for this for our pupils and they make us proud every day as they achieve this. They support each other through the roles we have created: Lift Buddy, Wheelchair Buddy, Ambassador, as well as through the empowering environment we create.
The DfE have reinforced the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” Our school’s values, vision, and aims incorporate British Values and are strengthened throughout the curriculum and the school day.
By scrutinizing teaching and learning in these different ways we can build up a fuller picture of the quality of provision in our school. It helps us to understand where and how we can improve and what staff development and learning we need to provide.
The children and young people at John Chilton School have severe or moderate learning difficulties many have additional physical and sensory needs. This can affect the chances for them and their families to access social and leisure activities. In addition to a broad, balanced, and holistic curriculum, the school aims to support families and the pupils in a variety of ways to enable them to experience a range of enriching activities.
