At Holy Trinity, we aim to help children understand that they are uniquely created by God, and are loved and cherished for who they are. We support each child in growing in confidence, independence, resilience, and knowledge, firmly rooted in Christian values. We are a school that is passionate about promoting all aspects of healthy living a healthy mind, healthy body including physical and emotional well-being, the encouragement of a healthy, nutritional diet, inner mindfulness, and continuous pastoral care.
The Holy Trinity Nursery is led by qualified teachers and follows the Government's "Early Years Foundation Stage" (EYFS) curriculum. As we are a voluntary aided school, we manage all Nursery applications ourselves by our Admissions Policy. Applications should be sent directly to the school and should you wish to apply for a Foundation place you will also need to complete a Supplementary Form and return this along with your Application. Holy Trinity is a two-form entry primary school, admitting 60 children to Reception each year. In-year vacancies for places outside the normal admissions period will be coordinated by the London Borough of Merton. You will need to complete an In-year Transfer Form, which can be obtained from the London Borough of Merton. At Holy Trinity Primary School we aim to bring learning to life by providing high-quality teaching and inspirational learning activities which link to all areas of the curriculum. We use the Power of Reading as the driver for our curriculum and plan topics around rich and engaging texts which inspire all our pupils. We use Learning Walls to assess the children's understanding of the curriculum objectives and acquisition of skills. Please see below for the Learning Walls for Maths and Writing.
There is a vast amount of information out there for parents/carers and children to access to help highlight the key aspects of keeping safe when online. At Holy Trinity Primary School we take the safety of children very seriously and have several policies in place to ensure that they enjoy school and learn in a fun and safe environment. On rare occasions, if your child has been prescribed medicine to be taken during the school day, staff will administer this. Please visit the School Office to hand over the medication and to sign the medical consent form. If your child needs to take the medication in school regularly, or if you need us to store medicines such as asthma inhalers and epi-pens for use in emergencies, you will be asked to complete an Individual Healthcare Plan for your child.
To be a successful reader, you need the ability to blend sounds and letters, as well as the ability to show understanding of what you are reading. These two skills rely on each other – you cannot be a skilled reader without both skills. Phonics is the technical part of learning to read. Synthetic phonics is a method used for teaching reading and writing by hearing and identifying sound patterns in words. At Holy Trinity, we use the scheme ‘Read Write Inc’ to teach phonics. The scheme uses rhyme and visual representation to help children memorize sounds (phonemes) and learn how these are represented with letters (graphemes). Lessons are daily, are approximately fifteen minutes long, and taught at a quick pace. In these lessons, the children review their learning, are taught a new sound or skill, practice this and then apply it.
Using their phonics knowledge as a foundation, children continue to learn spelling rules each year following the statutory requirement guidance in the National Curriculum. Each year group has an appendix with listed spelling rules that will be revised and covered across the year.
Included in the National Curriculum are word lists for years 3 and 4 and years 5 and 6, these are statutory. The lists are a mixture of words pupils frequently use in their writing and those which are often misspelled. Children are expected to be able to use and spell these words by the end of year 4 or year 6.
The Pupil Premium is allocated to schools with pupils on roll that are known to have been eligible for free school meals (FSM) at any time in the last six years. Schools also receive funding for children who have been adopted or looked after continuously and children of service personnel. The funding allocation per pupil changes each year. Schools have the freedom to spend the Pupil Premium, which is additional to the underlying schools budget, in a way they think will best address inequalities, tackle disadvantage, and support the raising of attainment for our pupils. This additional funding is invested in your child to help them achieve more at school.
