Holy Name Catholic Primary School is a Nursery and School for children aged 3 to 11 years of age. There are currently 329 pupils on roll.
Holy Name is a Catholic Community working in partnership with parents/carers to nurture and educate the whole person, in the way of Christ, enabling all to know their worth and reach their potential.
At Holy Name School we shine like the stars” Be your best in all things. We try to follow in Jesus’ footsteps by treating everyone with love and respect. Holy Name has a strong Catholic ethos with strong Community links. We work in partnership with the local community to develop links to enrich the learning experiences of our pupils.
We believe that our children only get one chance at Education and are therefore entitled to the best. We aim to provide a broad, balanced, and relevant curriculum and strive to offer our children an education that will equip them for the 21st Century and life.
We believe that every child is of equal value and should be given every opportunity to develop their true potential, intellectually, socially, morally, physically, and emotionally. Our children feel safe and secure and are happy at school. We promote a policy of inclusion for all. We have an ethos that caters to meet the needs of all our children and enrich their lives forever.
We aim to develop excellence in terms of attainment and personal growth. We provide many opportunities to prepare our children for their future working life through continued development of their skills and personal qualities such as having ambition and determination to succeed. We focus on the whole child, building on their skills and talents and celebrating their achievements.
We promote a caring, learning community, where everyone is valued and may flourish. We provide good guidance and support for our pupils. There is strong pastoral care from everyone and has a valuable contribution to make to the success of our school.
The curriculum offered to our children is engaging and meaningful. The Learning Environment is vibrant, stimulating, motivating, and a celebration of our children’s attainment. We have gained several External Accreditations to celebrate our work.
The spiritual, moral, social, and cultural aspects of our school are frequently commented on by our parents, students. Ofsted said that our children’s behavior was “exemplary”.
We are committed to the principles and outcomes embedded in “Every Child Matters”. There is a strong Home-School Partnership and parents are very supportive of all school activities. Parents have confidence in our school. They are supportive of our work and trust us.
Our pupils can contribute to aspects of the decision-making process within the school by expressing their views. Our children make a significant contribution to the like of our school and demonstrate a strong sense of Citizenship.
“Curriculum”, in its broadest sense, means everything that happens in or as a result of school. We believe that spiritual and secular aspects of the curriculum offered at Holy Name Catholic Primary School are inseparable and intertwined. The ethos of our Catholic School is embodied in the curriculum we offer to the children entrusted to us.
Nursery and Reception classes are known as the Early Years Foundation Stage. The curriculum for these 2 age groups is planned in 6 areas of learning. These areas are personal and social development, language & literacy, mathematics, knowledge, understanding of the world, physical development, and creative development. Experiences are planned for both indoor and outdoor learning, which enable all children to make maximum progress in all areas.
Years 1 and 2 are called Key Stage 1. Years 3, 4, 5, and 6 are called Key Stage 2. The curriculum is planned using QCA documents and the International Primary Curriculum.
The core subjects are English, Maths, Science, and Computing, and the compulsory subject of R.E. The other subjects are called the Foundation subjects. These are History, Geography, Art, Music, P.E., and Design Technology. PSHE, Citizenship is also included in the curriculum.
We seek to provide a broad and balanced curriculum, based on the requirements of the National Curriculum. To enhance this we will provide opportunities to undertake Educational Visits relevant and pertinent to the Topics children are studying, and provide activities and experiences which are an integral part of Primary Education.
Literacy is taught based on the National Literacy Strategy. The emphasis is on enjoyment and understanding of a wide range of texts and authors. The children are taught word and sentence structure, the structures of writing for different purposes, and reading for meaning.
We will seek to secure imaginatively an expanding range of skills in the development of language and personal education, the ability to listen, to converse articulately, to read with fluency and accuracy, and to take into account the demands of language structure in common use and an author’s intentions, to use skills of inference and deduction.
