Welcome to Highgate Wood School, a school that values all its members. We are a truly comprehensive school and work hard to ensure that everybody is encouraged to achieve their best. We have incredible students who are at the heart of the school.

Highgate Wood School is a very successful, mixed comprehensive school, catering for 1400 students of all abilities and backgrounds aged from eleven to eighteen years old. Our school mission statement is based upon three fundamental commitments, that we as a school:

• Make a positive difference to our students.
• Maintain the highest of expectations of our students and ourselves.
• Inspire self-belief in our students.

Our mission statement is not an aim or an aspiration… It is what we know we already do. It is an affirmation of our everyday practice and ethos, and what we believe makes us special as a school.

All of our students are encouraged to aim for excellence and to fulfill their potential - academically, socially, and personally. We want them to become successful, confident, and caring adults who will be able to play an active part in society where adaptability, enterprise, perseverance, and consideration for others are increasingly important. Our strong commitment to equality of opportunity and equality of esteem is intended to ensure that all students, regardless of ability, aptitude, or background, can fulfill their potential.

We expect our students to have high aspirations their academic progress and examination success are ensured by top first-rate facilities and challenging targets. Our school motto is Everyone Matters and this ensures that we take an approach that values every student as an individual, with a wide range of curricular and extra-curricular opportunities enabling talent and creativity to be identified and nurtured.

We want everyone to feel welcome, safe, and secure in the school and believe that each of us has a valuable contribution to make to the school community and its continued success.

Our core values are embodied in the 4Cs - Courtesy, Consideration, Cooperation, and Contribution, the traditional human values of Respect and Honesty, and the values bound up within a Growth Mindset: Perseverance and Hard Work. It is through these values that we bring to life our mission statement: "Making a positive difference to students' achievements and experiences, maintaining the highest expectations and inspiring self-belief."

Student Voice is an important part of Highgate Wood School. We run assemblies to highlight the importance of agreed rules, practices, and behaviors, as well as to highlight the tragedies that occur when the ordinary rule of law breaks down, at a local level with the stories behind the Haringey Riots, or the international level with the tragedy of the Holocaust.

Respect is at the core of our school ethos and is modeled by students. Mutual respect is embraced throughout the curriculum from the concept of "fair play" in PE to the student peer mentoring program which promotes mutual respect and support between students across different year groups within the school.

We are proud of the diversity of our community and believe Highgate Wood School provides an exceptional environment to equip young people to thrive and be confident within a modern, culturally diverse society. We have developed active international links that have been established through individual departments (including Modern Foreign Languages, Philosophy, and History, PE and Music), and through different year groups (including the sixth form) as well as through our whole-school work for which we have achieved the International Schools Award.

Additionally, we strive to support our students to develop into confident, happy, successful young adults who have empathy towards and an understanding of those of different outlooks, beliefs, and faiths, as well as an understanding and appreciation of the importance of equality in terms of race or ethnic identity, religion or belief, gender, sexuality, including gender reassignment, age, and disability as well as an understanding that these qualities are protected in law.

Highgate Wood School has a school uniform. Highgate Wood School is a mixed comprehensive school in Crouch End, North London. The school has approximately 1500 students of whom 250 are in the sixth form. Most of our Sixth Form students come from Highgate Wood School but an increasing number of students are joining us from elsewhere.

We are a high-performing sixth form, above the national average for achievement. Our 2017 results have maintained our consistently high placing in national data tables.
