It is our aim at Harrington Hill to assist children to grow up with a clear view of what is right and wrong. When children become independent, self-disciplined, and responsible adults, it benefits society as a whole. Teachers and parents have a responsibility in setting a good example.
Admissions into our school from Reception class up to Year 6 are carried out by the Local Authority, should you wish for a mid-year transition or are new to the area and would like to enroll your child. For admissions into the school Nursery, applications must be made directly to the school. Please contact the main school office for further information and to book an appointment.
The safety and well-being of the children at Harrington Hill Primary School is our priority. Children cannot learn unless they feel happy and safe. We adhere to stringent Safeguarding procedures to protect the welfare of all the children who come here.
It is the moral and legal duty of all adults in charge of children to be ready to protect children in danger from abuse. Education staff has a responsibility to observe, monitor, and refer suspected abuse. Any member of staff suspecting child abuse or neglect must refer their suspicions to the Designated Safeguarding Lead officers or Head of School, who will then refer to the local Social Care Team if appropriate. Staff must be aware that many more children experience abuse than are registered as requiring protection. It is therefore essential that school staff are vigilant in identifying abuse. School staff has regular training opportunities to ensure that they are kept up to date with current policies and procedures.
At Harrington Hill, we are always striving for excellence in all we do and are happy to celebrate our successes. Over the last few years, we have our results rise significantly. We worked hard to develop our school grounds, with the help of the school and eco-council we were able to build and develop our wildlife garden and vegetable garden, even being recognized for our hard work by the Speakers School Council Awards. We won poetry competitions and took part in 'Clean up Clapton' events. The children had the opportunity to sing at The Roundhouse as part of the Hackney Music festival. We also were lucky enough to go to Bafta HQ and received a national Cut Film award for Under 11s Film of the Year for anti-smoking. This year we will be working together to ensure that all teaching is good or better, our results continue to rise and the children's writing continues to improve. We will be looking to develop our new curriculum and assessment procedures and ensure all teaching is good or better.
Children who are part of the Eco Team will meet every week to discuss how Harrington Hill can become more sustainable. Our first project is focused on recycling. Currently, our Eco Team is taking steps to educate both staff and children about what can be recycled. Bag2School is the UK’s leading textile recycler and fundraiser working with schools and since its inception in 2001 it has now paid out over £27 million. As well as raising vitally needed funds for Harrington Hill Primary School, it also helps the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away from landfills. A recent DEFRA report has shown that textile collection schemes are helping to reduce the volume of textiles discarded as municipal solid waste. However, it is a fact that as a nation we still send 350,000 tonnes of textiles to landfills every year. By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles in the bag provided – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, handbags, and soft toys. In addition to raising much-needed funds, it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reusing.
