Gwyn Jones Primary School is a small, diverse primary school in Leytonstone. Founded in 1975, Gwyn Jones has long had a reputation as a caring school, where children can achieve their full potential in a safe environment. At Gwyn Jones, we believe it is our responsibility to inspire and empower children in our care. Whether that inspiration is to become a passionate campaigner of human rights, a mathematician, sporting champion, or even a ukulele player we aim to provide an excellent education that nurtures our children’s innate curiosity and love of learning in all areas.

Our rich and broad curriculum places great emphasis on preparing our children to be active global citizens who have their own opinions and the skills to articulate them. We provide many opportunities for our children to see their role in our diverse school and the local community. We want our children to recognize the positive contribution they can make to their local and global community either by taking on responsibilities within the school such as peer mentors or working on change projects like the school garden or writing to and visiting their local MP in the Houses of Commons.

We recognize the part every child plays in our school family and celebrate them individually as well as having the highest aspirations for their education in all areas. We are extremely lucky to have a wonderful PTSA and we cherish the partnerships we have with parents and carers. At Gwyn Jones, we are committed to ensuring that every member of our school community is inspired and empowered each day.

We aim to inspire and empower our children by:

• Providing excellent teaching which nurtures our children’s innate curiosity, allowing them opportunities to take risks and to think for themselves.
• Supporting our children to have responsibility for their learning to have their own opinions and the skills to articulate them.
• Allowing all children access to a rich and broad curriculum that fully prepares them to be active, global citizens.
• Ensuring all children participate in a variety of trips and visitors in their local and wider community.
• Acting as role models who respect others and enjoy the rich diversity of our school family.
• Insisting that every child is known well, safe, and nurtured to achieve their personal best.

We aim to inspire and empower our staff by:

• Providing a wide range of relevant and innovative professional learning in school which focuses on collaboration and sharing good practice, including lesson study, planning support, team teacher, and action research.
• Forging strong links with external agencies to deliver professional development - teaching schools, higher education institutes, etc.
• Giving developmental feedback with clear and specific actions for staff and leaders.
• Establishing coaching and mentoring relationships which encourage reflection.
• Identifying and nurturing leadership talent.
