Greenmead School is a Wandsworth maintained special day school for children aged 2-11 years. We specialize in educating pupils with severe and profound learning disabilities. Many pupils have additional physical disabilities, communication difficulties, and complex health needs. We are extremely proud to have maintained our Outstanding Ofsted judgment in September 2016 having had 3 previous consecutive Outstanding judgments.

We ensure all pupils follow a curriculum that is highly personalized and differentiated to make learning fun, meaningful and engaging. We aim for all of our children to leave Greenmead as confident, independent life-learners who can express themselves and their choices, are problem-solvers and who can contribute to the community in which they live and learn.

We work closely with colleagues in health and social care to provide integrated therapies throughout the school day and to support our work with families to ensure all children can reach their full potential in a safe and happy environment.

At Greenmead Primary School, we focus on our children and what they can do now. Through close working relationships with families and the multi-disciplinary team around the child, we develop ambitious and meaningful expectations. Children at Greenmead work hard and we celebrate every single achievement.

We aim for all of our children to leave Greenmead as confident, independent life-learners who can express themselves and their choices, are problem-solvers and who can contribute to the community in which they live and learn.

We provide a friendly, supportive and safe environment with a climate of trust, honesty, and positivity. Our new state-of-the-art building is co-located with our mainstream partner school Ronald Ross Primary School, creating novel opportunities for integration and development for all.

Greenmead School caters to pupils with a range of complex physical disabilities, severe and/or profound learning difficulties with additional communication needs. We continue to be recognized as an innovative center that provides Outstanding outcomes for all children.

Greenmead aims to provide outstanding opportunities for all our pupils. We achieve this through excellent teaching of our broad and balanced yet creative and individualized curriculum. At Greenmead we have designed our curricula to meet the full range of special education needs that our pupils have. Our curricula and class groupings are carefully considered and are organized in such a way that all our pupils’ special educational needs are met in an age-appropriate way.

Our Early Years and Foundation Stage department takes pupils between the ages of 2-5 years. We have organized these pupils into two classes, Pluto and Neptune. Pluto and Neptune's class follow an adapted version of the Early Years and Foundation Stage curriculum. This curriculum follows seven main areas of development:

• Communication and language
• Physical development
• PSED
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the world
• Expressive arts and design

Greenmead School is a Wandsworth maintained special school and will therefore follow guidance and advice from Wandsworth LA. Services in other Local Authorities may have different processes to follow.

The Special Educational Needs Code of Practice 2014 states that a child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or a disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for them. High quality of teaching that is differentiated and personalized will meet the individual needs of the majority of children and young people. Some children and young people need an educational provision that is additional or different from this. This is special education under Section 21 of the Children and Families Act 2014. We use their best endeavors to ensure that such a provision is made for those who need it. Special educational provision is underpinned by high-quality teaching and learning.

The Outreach Service at Greenmead School supports pupils with a physical disability who attend Wandsworth mainstream primary schools. The work of the service is to support mainstream settings to meet the needs of this group of pupils. There is a small but growing number of pupils with complex physical disabilities in full-time mainstream provision. A specialist teacher who is experienced in working with children with physical disabilities can provide support and advice in some or all of the following areas as appropriate to the individual needs of each school and pupil:

Manual handling including providing training for school staff and support around writing Moving and Handling Risk Assessments ICT including specialized hardware and software to enable curriculum access and recording work (in liaison with CENMAC) Curriculum assessment and differentiation, particularly for pupils with a physical disability who are working below age-related expectations Communication, Loan of specialist resources, Support with IEPs and Annual Reviews, Liaison with other professionals involved with each child as required.

There are a small but growing number of pupils at Greenmead School who require access to mainstream opportunities. This may be organized in different ways according to the individual needs of each pupil but includes:

• Half-day per week spent at a mainstream school close to Greenmead and supported by a member of staff from Greenmead
• A full day per week spent at a mainstream school and supported by a member of staff from Greenmead.
• A formalized dual placement between a mainstream school and Greenmead (i.e. Statement names both schools)

For some pupils, this may eventually result in a transition to full-time mainstream education. For others, it may be a long-term dual placement requiring time spent at both mainstream and Greenmead schools each week.
