Set in 150 acres of stunning parkland in rural West Berkshire, Elstree currently welcomes boys aged 3-13 years and girls aged 3-8 years. From Year 4 onwards, boys can choose to board in this happy, secure, and purposeful environment. It is an idyllic place for children to be nurtured and inspired.
At Elstree, we are academically ambitious and provide a first-class all-around education. Our boys go on to the top public schools and we are immensely proud of the strong Common Entrance and Scholarship record. The emphasis is on building confidence, developing talent, and maximizing potential.
Christian values underpin everything we do. Pupils are encouraged to respect one another and to gain a strong sense of personal worth. We pride ourselves on their openness and positive spirit, their good manners, and, above all, their ability to contribute fully to the school and make lifelong friends.
It is so easy to complicate education. Whilst it is vital to embrace the challenges of the 21st Century, we must never lose sight of the importance of giving children a proper childhood. Creativity, teamwork, and tolerance go hand in hand with a hunger and curiosity to learn and a strong will to succeed.
Whilst Elstree’s facilities and approach have modernized hugely in recent years, the aim is still to embed the important values of hard work, kindness to others, and making the most of opportunities. Academic achievement coupled with the chance to be involved in sport, music, art, and drama, ensure that Elstree remains a preparatory school in the broadest sense of the word.
We encourage all the children to make their best effort to reach a level they thought they could not reach. We hope they will achieve this through the honesty of their endeavor, the dedication and skill of the caring staff, the inspiring environment for learning, and the excellence of the facilities. Whilst the emphasis on the academic side is vital, every child is encouraged to have a go at a very broad range of activities and all of their achievements are celebrated, whatever the field. Our teachers ensure that each child is allowed to shine in many areas of school life and so develop a sense of accomplishment and personal worth.
Special focus is given to fostering the qualities of teamwork and leadership. Children are taught and encouraged to communicate with their peers and their teachers in a confident and considerate way and to display high levels of self-discipline, honesty, and integrity.
Traditional values of courtesy, tolerance, and good manners are high on the agenda, as is the ability to distinguish clearly between right and wrong. The children are encouraged to respect one another which gives them an awareness of being part of a wider community and a strong feeling of belonging.
