Chamber Junior School is located in the village of Abertrdiwr near Caerphilly, and servers the village and the immediate locality. The school was opened on the 30th January 1989. We are an inclusive school for pupils aged 7 to 11 years old. There are currently 150 pupils on roll. We are a Community School. Our feeder school is Cwmaber Infant School.
We are a school that is committed to inclusive education, meeting the needs of ALL the children in our care. We want the children to be excited about coming to school and to love learning. We want them to be motivated and challenged.
The school has a dedicated staff who take pride in providing high-quality education. Our mission statement, ‘working together to be the best we can be – great within cyd within is the key to the success of our school. We very much value and appreciate the positive support of our parents and the wider community and strive for an open and welcoming environment where we can work in partnership for the benefit of our children.
In literacy, we have been learning about Instructions and we are reading The Night Pirates by Peter Harris and Deborah Allwright and exploring Roald Dahl's stories. For maths we have been investigating coordinates - we are looking for Pirate treasure. For our work in Humanities, we are finding out about historical Pirates such as Blackbeard, Anne Bonney, and Welsh Pirate Henry Morgan. We have designed a new Pirate Flag and we are going to write messages in a bottle.
In ICT we are learning about computational thinking and coding. We are taking pictures and tweeting them. It has been a busy start to the Autumn term and we have already started to work hard and enjoy our learning. Our topic is 'Keep Calm and Carry On!' where we will research, what life was like during WWII. The class has recently visited Cardiff Castle and found out how the castle played an important part during WWII. We also learned some wartime songs and even used stirrup pumps to practice putting out fires. Feedback from the pupils was 'the trip was EPIC!!
