Colmore Junior School opened in 1909 and has successfully educated children for over a century. Many of the children that attend our school have followed in their parent's and grandparent's footsteps. We know that there is a strong community that supports the school and our reputation for maintaining caring alongside doing the fun things well- like the arts, makes us a popular choice locally.

We remain committed to developing our children as well-rounded individuals who become sought after by our local secondary school and highly employable young adults. Most importantly we want our children to be happy and develop a real love of learning. We know that academic success relies on children being happy and confident.

Most of you will know something about us as your child makes the important progression from Colmore Infant School to Colmore Junior School. We work closely with our Infant partners to make the transition as smooth and easy as possible. However, for some of you, this will be your first contact with us as your child starts “in the Juniors”.

At our school where staff, governors, and parents work hard to ensure that the children reach their potential in a caring, safe, and creative environment where everyone is valued. Both schools put the child at the heart of all they do with a rich and broad curriculum and an ethos that builds self-esteem and confidence.

At Colmore Junior School we aim to:

• Provide a safe and stimulating environment where children feel secure and happy in the knowledge that they are supported by a caring partnership between parents, teachers, and governors.
• Encourage the children and adults to take personal pride in themselves, their behavior, their achievements, and their school.
• Encourage everyone to value and respect their own and other cultures.
• Promote fairness and high standards of behavior and discipline, encouraging responsibility, care, and respect for others.

To achieve our aims, we feel it is essential to have a well-planned and structured curriculum based on the programs of study of the New National Curriculum. We have now completed the redesign of the school curriculum and have tried to ensure that we have maintained the enrichment activities of our 'old curriculum', which we considered being the motivational aspect of the children's learning experiences.

Class teachers have a responsibility to ensure that all children are supported within lessons using a variety of teaching and learning strategies appropriate to their needs including additional support from the class teacher and teaching assistants. At Colmore, we seek to promote and develop every child’s sense of independence and achievement within a supportive and nurturing environment. A ‘team’ approach is always adopted by class staff to avoid overdependency on one adult. Children may have access to the whole class, small group, and some 1:1 support dependent on their needs. This means that activities are planned according to the level the child is working at.

All children have access to our extra-curricular activities, both during the school day at lunchtimes or before/after school which may include Sports Club, Friendship Club, Film Club, Breakfast Club, etc. Often children are invited to attend if we feel they may benefit. Where appropriate and possible, adjustments will be made to ensure all children and young people with special education needs are fully included in these activities.
