Clifton Lodge is a small, welcoming school, which enables us to get to know all our pupils and families extremely well. There is a friendly, inclusive atmosphere with small class sizes, where children are supported by each other as well as their teachers. Our children feel safe and secure. Lessons are routinely differentiated so that every child has the opportunity to be academically challenged.
As a preparatory school, we focus on entry into the best academic senior schools. These entrance assessments provide the skills required for public exams later in school life. Traditionally in West London, girls move on to senior schools at 11+ and boys at 13+ we prepare pupils for both.
As well as the academic ISEB curriculum, there is a wide range of clubs and activities that children can be fully engaged in. Sport, music, and drama are a vital part of the curriculum and we celebrate our pupils’ successes in these areas.
The school is divided into two sections, each with a dedicated team of experienced staff. The Lower School includes children from Nursery to Year 3. These children are taught by their class teacher, supported by subject specialist teachers in several curriculum areas. The teacher also receives support from teaching assistants. In our Upper School children are taught by subject specialists. This prepares them for the rigors of Common Entrance and senior school entrance exams.
During their time at Clifton Lodge, children develop into highly motivated, well-rounded individuals with the skills and abilities to cope extremely well in their chosen senior school. Additional, Music, Drama, and Dance are offered to support the school’s curriculum and are vital elements in ensuring that pupils leaving Clifton Lodge can be said to be educated, in its fullest sense. Along with Art and Sport, these subjects are often important indicators used by senior schools when selecting pupils for entry.
We have a thriving choir at Clifton Lodge. Pupils from Year 2 can audition to be part of the choir at the start of the academic year. Being part of the choir requires a commitment to learn the songs, attend rehearsals, and all the performances. There is choir rehearsals each Wednesday and Friday lunchtime in term-time.
The choir covers a wide-ranging repertoire of songs and styles from classical, baroque, folk, pop, blues, etc… and enjoys singing in three-part harmonies as well as in unison and Accapella. They perform at many of the school events and festivals throughout the year such as Harvest and Remembrance assemblies, the Christmas carol concert, the Spring concert, and Speech day.
Pupils have numerous opportunities to take part in events and productions throughout the year which showcases their talents in music and drama. Besides, we regularly invite ‘Perform’ into school to hold drama workshops with our Lower School pupils. Older pupils can take part in our annual drama production held at the Town Hall, there are opportunities both on stage and behind the scenes to get involved.
