Our school was founded in 1906. We are proud of our reputation for providing a caring and purposeful environment in which the individual needs of each child are recognized, and their achievements and abilities are celebrated.
Bournville Junior School is a learning community we believe that both adults and children learn new things every day. We maintain that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone it should be fun. We aim to open hearts and minds to opportunities without limits and to prepare our pupils for the next stage in their education and balanced life as confident and active citizens.
We value the partnerships we have built with all stakeholders – children, parents, governors, staff, and the local community – all working together in harmony to achieve a common goal of continued success and a lifelong love of learning.
The Department of Education has set out that all schools should promote fundamental British values. These values are democracy the rule of law individual liberty mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. At Bournville Junior School we aim to weave British Values throughout our broad and balanced curriculum.
At Bournville Junior School, we follow the Birmingham Agreed Syllabus for Religious Education, through which the children learn from and learn about religion. The syllabus does not identify with individual faiths but focuses on the principles underpinning faith generally. There is a daily act of worship, which takes place as a whole school, as a phase, or as a class. Parents have the right to withdraw their child from Religious Education and/or collective worship.
At BJS, we believe that high-quality P.E and sport inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities. Providing opportunities for our pupils to compete in sport and other activities builds character and helps to embed values such as fairness and respect.
At Bournville Junior School, we embrace the fact that all children are different and have diverse learning needs. We strive to offer an inclusive environment. Our goal is to enable all children to achieve their best possible outcomes and feel like valued members of our school community. Sometimes children need additional support for a variety of reasons. The Inclusion Team works closely with pupils, parents/carers, and teachers to ensure pupils’ needs are met and to monitor provision.
