Blueberry Park is a wonderful school where all the staff work extremely hard to fulfill the mission statement by providing an exciting and engaging curriculum for our children.

All our children also work hard to do the very best they can, and pupils leave our school knowing that they can aspire to be whatever they want to be in life if they continue to work hard.

To ensure that the school is a professional learning community with a learning-focused culture. To challenge pupils and staff to achieve personal standards of excellence. To continue to raise standards through high expectations embedded in the curriculum and learning and teaching. To involve children in the evaluation of their learning and planning the next stage of their learning. To provide a safe physical and emotional environment that reflects the diversity of our pupils. To respect the rights and value the contribution of parents, pupils, and staff through effective communication and consultation.

Our curriculum has an emphasis on the core subjects of English, Maths, Science, and Computing. Also, we teach Religious Education, Art & Design, Physical Education, Design & Technology, History, Geography, Music, Personal/Social/ Health Education, and French.

English work incorporates reading, writing, speaking & listening, and handwriting. Each class plans for a daily Literacy and Numeracy session. Mathematics covers the knowledge and application of numbers, shape and space, algebra, and data handling. Science involves the knowledge, understanding, and investigation of physical processes, materials and their properties, and life processes.

Our children are taught and encouraged to use a wide range of media, tools, and apparatus. Computers, iPads, and Fizzbooks are used throughout the school and integrated across the curriculum to support and extend children’s learning from Nursery to Year 6. We have classroom-based computers with interactive whiteboards, a computer suite, and WiFi internet access throughout the school.

Blueberry Park Primary School has a strong commitment towards offering additional curriculum opportunities as part of an extended school day. We offer a very wide range of lunchtime and after-school clubs that are extended and developed continuously.

Blueberry Park Primary School provides a broad and balanced curriculum within the guidelines of the Department for Education requirements.

Blueberry Park Primary School has rigorous assessment procedures to monitor both individual pupil progress and whole school outcomes. These include ongoing assessment procedures at the classroom level, half termly, formal assessments, SATS at Key Stages 1 and 2, Optional SATS at Years 3, 4 & 5, Phonics at Year 1, and Baseline assessments at Nursery and Reception stage. These assessments are used to inform teaching, set individual and whole school targets, and are shared with parents on parents evenings. Formal SATS results are shared with Year 2 & 6 parents at the end of the school year and overall outcomes are published for all parents.

Our Foundation Stage accommodates both Nursery and Reception children, where we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We work closely as a whole unit and the children can access both learning environments and enjoy playing and learning together.

At Blueberry Park Primary School we take very seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. We ensure that the fundamental British Values are introduced, discussed, and lived out through the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our RE (Religious Education), PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), and SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding. Children embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.

The school makes considerable efforts to ensure children have exposure to a wide experience beyond their local community during which these concepts are shown, through, for example, sporting events, a range of visits, and residentials. We aim to nurture a strong-rooted values-based understanding which gives them an excellent platform for embracing difference.

At Blueberry Park Primary we strive to support all pupils to enable them to achieve at school. To do this many steps are taken to support them through their learning journey. Quality teaching is vital however, for some children there are occasions when further additional support may be needed to help them achieve their targets.

At Blueberry Park Primary School we recognize the terms ‘child protection’ and ‘safeguarding’ are often used interchangeably, however they have very different meanings. Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined for this guidance as:

• Protecting children from maltreatment
• Preventing impairment of children’s health or development
• Ensuring that children are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
