A warm welcome to Blackmoor Park Infant School. Blackmoor Park Infant School is a wonderful school to work in our talented and hardworking staff are committed to providing the very best. We are very proud of our school and the way it is continually developing as a creative, child-centered environment. Relationships throughout the school are based on mutual trust and respect all children are valued and all staff works hard to help every child reach his or her full potential.

We pride ourselves on a high level of education alongside a personal and individual environment where children can develop and thrive. Children leave our school at the end of Year 2 with results above the national average and with the confidence and skills to face the challenge of moving forward to junior school.

We are a friendly vibrant three-form entry infant and nursery school. The children are aged between three and seven and we have eleven classes with thirty children in each class. These are organized into three-year groups of ninety in each Year R, Year 1, and Year 2. In Nursery, we have both a morning and afternoon class of 30 places with an additional Early Years Integrated full day care provision offering up to a further 24 places.

Our vision is to create a happy, welcoming, safe, and stimulating learning community where everyone is included and respected. As a school, we value the importance of developing effective learning behaviors which include resilience, determination, and collaboration. We work together to inspire and challenge all children so they become healthy, motivated life-long learners who have the opportunity to achieve their potential.

We believe that your child's first years in life are extremely important and we strive to develop their potential through a stimulating, multi-sensory, broad, and balanced curriculum. In this stage, your child will learn through play, as we nurture and develop the skills they need to become a lifelong learner. Your child is given many opportunities to talk, observe, plan, question, test, reflect and respond. They are encouraged to do so independently, with their classmates, or with adults.

We foster strong partnerships with parents, as we believe good links with home have a powerful influence on your child's development. We know that children feel more confident and positive about their learning when we work together, in an atmosphere of mutual respect and cooperation. At Blackmoor Park Infant School and Kindergarten, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework. This framework is divided into 3 sections:

• Characteristics of Learning
• 3 prime areas of learning
• 4 specific areas of learning

Communication and language development involves giving children opportunities to experience a rich language environment to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Physical development involves providing opportunities for young children to be active and interactive and to develop their coordination, control, and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity and to make healthy choices about food.

Personal, social, and emotional development involves helping children to develop a positive sense of themselves, and others to form positive relationships and develop respect for others to develop social skills and learn how to manage their feelings to understand appropriate behavior in groups and to have confidence in their abilities.

Literacy development involves encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children must be given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

Mathematics involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems, and describing shapes, spaces, and measures.

Understanding the world involves guiding children to make sense of their physical world and their community through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology, and the environment.

Expressive arts and design involve enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas, and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.

Blackmoor Park Infant School’s Forest School believes that outdoor play is important for child development and learning, an entitlement for our pupils. However, Forest School is much more than just outdoor play.

Forest School is learner-centered and led by the individual. The role of Forest School practitioners is to provide resources, activities, and skills development but when the pupil requires or requests them. Observation is the practitioner’s key method of assessing and planning a Forest School program for every pupil, lead by the pupil.
