Welcome to Blackfriars Primary School. We look forward to helping you educate and care for your child in our friendly school. If you haven’t already done so, please come to visit us to see what we have to offer. Our children are growing up in a fast-paced world and it is essential to build the capacity of our young people to meet the worldwide challenges. Digital Literacy is therefore at the heart of all we do.

We seek to offer the excellent education that meets the needs of your child as an individual, academically, socially, morally, and where appropriate, spiritually. Co-operation and respect for others are fostered in a school with a rich diversity of cultures, backgrounds, and talents.

We strive to create an atmosphere that encourages and rewards positive attitudes and behavior, which celebrates success and stimulates interest and enthusiasm for life-long learning. We are justifiably proud of our high standard of behavior, involvement in the community, and achievements of individuals as well as a school generally.

We will continue to benefit from strong links with parents, carers, families, and the wider community. Good regular attendance and time-keeping, polite manners, respect for others, and a commitment to performing to the best of one’s ability are all encouraged.

We have fantastic resources on our doorstep – The Citizens’ Theatre, Glasgow Green, The Tramway, The Central Mosque, Gorbals Library, and Gorbals Leisure Centre. The school has excellent playground facilities – an enchanted forest, a large football pitch, Astro-turf pitch, bird garden, and activity playground. Inside we have a gym hall, dining hall, GP room, Learning Park which consists of a state-of-the-art Media Suite and a beautiful library. All classrooms are equipped with computers, smart boards, laptops, and projectors. As a school that is dedicated to preparing our children for the future as yet unknown. We have invested in iPads to provide building creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills development opportunities.

Children can attend a Breakfast Club in the school from 8.00 – 9.00 a.m. which is provided by Cordia staff. TASK, Monkey Puzzle, or Rising Stars provide an Out-of-school service. We share our building with Laurieston Day Nursery which can be accessed from their entrance in Hillside Place. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time on any school-related matter. Blackfriars Primary aims, in co-operation with parents, carers, and the local community, to provide a happy, healthy and secure environment conducive to learning and equality of opportunity. Motivating all children to progress in achieving their full potential and become hard-working, caring members of society ready to lead the way.

All areas of the curriculum are taught following the Scottish Office Education Department. A Curriculum for Excellence Guidelines. The school offers a broad and balanced curriculum comprised of:

• Environmental Studies,
• Expressive Arts,
• Religious and Moral Education,
• Personal and Social education,
• Information and Computer
• Technology
• Modern Languages (French).

Often several of these curricular areas are combined in the study of a topic or project. Every child at Blackfriars, irrespective of creed, color, sex, or ability is given the same opportunity to attain his/her potential in all areas of the curriculum. There is no discrimination or bias.
