BWI School was opened by Bishop Winnington-Ingram, Bishop of London, in 1931 at its original Eastcote Road site in Ruislip and moved to the current Southcote Rise location in 1968. Our school community is made up of children, parents, teachers, support staff, and governors everyone has their part to play.
At BWI we firmly believe that every child matters and in educating the whole child, we encourage a desire for knowledge and independence as well as helping each child to develop skills for their next school and life.
Our vision, values, and worship are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.
Being a Christian community where everyone can grow in the Christian faith and develop an understanding of and respect for others. Helping each individual develop self-awareness, self-discipline, and a positive attitude to life and work. Creating a happy and stimulating working environment so that children are enabled to fulfill their potential and acquire skills and knowledge to prepare them for the wider world. Fostering in children an excitement for God’s world and an awareness of their place in it.
At BWI we have a highly dedicated staff and very hard-working children and this enables us to achieve good results. We firmly believe in educating the whole child, who gains independence and skills for the next school and life.
We are a caring and nurturing community, helping children to have respect for each other, to have pride in their environment, and to be happy.
We are a busy but friendly school, with lots going on. This website aims to give you a taster of the school, as well as providing regularly updated information for both parents and pupils.
In R.E. we teach children about Christianity and its context in today’s society. We also teach children about other faiths and their beliefs and practices. We are a Christian community where collective worship is placed at the center of the school’s life and takes place every day. Christian values are integral to our ethos and teaching and all staff and pupils are expected to take part in worship. Close relations with St Martin’s Church in Ruislip are developed through active participation of the priests in the life of the school and school visits to the church. Priests, ministers, deacons, and pastors from other local churches are welcome visitors to our school. It is expected by the governors that parents who choose BWI will support the R.E. and Collective Worship Policy, although the right to withdraw does exist.
One of our school aims is to create a caring, healthy, stimulating, and balanced environment by providing a program of PSHCE. This encompasses physical, emotional, and mental development and seeks to foster positive attitudes between the children themselves and the adults who care for them.
We can use a wide variety of teaching methods according to the needs of the children and the nature of the activity. These include whole class, small group, and individual teaching. The groups may be different according to the task and will be flexible to reflect individual strengths.
