Birches Green Junior School was established in 1929 and is one of the oldest schools in Erdington, celebrating its 85th birthday in 2014. We are proud of our rich history but also celebrate the developments and opportunities that we can provide for our children in the 21st Century.

As a school, we are constantly striving to improve on our previous best to ensure that all children receive the best possible education to reach their full potential. We promote skills for life and the values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and respect and tolerance of others' beliefs and cultures. This will support our pupils of today to become the good citizens of tomorrow.

We provide a broad, balanced, differentiated curriculum for all the children through a creative, cross-curricular approach and by providing a wide range of exciting, challenging activities and experiences for all pupils irrespective of ability, background, ethnic origin, or gender.

Through the curriculum, we aim to prepare pupils for the opportunities, experiences, and responsibilities of adult life and to lay a firm foundation for future learning. We place a strong emphasis on the development of the basic skills necessary to be confident independent learners and successful adults. We also realize the importance of nurturing individual skills and talents.

Our aim is that the curriculum will ensure:

• It is stimulating and exciting.
• Inspires ‘Learning is for life.
• Takes learning beyond the classroom.
• Builds confidence, resilience, and motivation within our children.
• Enables children to learn to value others, their views, cultures, and beliefs.

As a school, we also promote the fundamental shared values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

In our school, we make provision for pupils who have any of the needs. We know that some pupils will have difficulties in more than one of these areas and we will always do our best to meet their needs. The support in this table acts as a guide but the things we do may vary and actual support will be based on the specific needs of each pupil. All children in school have support within lessons through differentiation and teaching strategies. This means that activities are planned according to the level the child is working at. This can include a variety of ways including changes to the physical environment, changes to teaching styles as well as levels of adult support.
