Dortmund primary is a unique SEMH special needs setting that sits within the shadow of the Shard. All the children who attend our school are here because it was not possible to meet their needs in a mainstream setting. For some, we may be their third or fourth school so our main aim is to reignite a love of learning.

Our expectations are high. We aspire for children to flourish and succeed – socially, emotionally, and academically. We personalize the curriculum and strive for children to make accelerated levels of academic progress. We build upon their interests, strengths, and learning styles whilst acknowledging what motivates them to learn.

Families play an important role here at Beormund and we keenly encourage active participation from all parents and carers. This ranges from daily communication via our home school diaries, regular Coffee Mornings, and successful events such as Art or Science family learning sessions and our infamous Family Fun Day. We promote the positive impact of parental involvement.

At Dortmund, we are given freedom and flexibility to allow creativity when studying the foundation subjects. Planning is driven by the Science curriculum, ensuring coverage of key skills and driving a broad range of objectives.

As a school, we can choose to place the units of study in any term with the relevant Key Stage. Please also note that there will be elements of some Programmes of Study that will need to be studied not just in one term, but in several terms throughout the year. For example, learning about seasonal changes will need to take place in different terms. Flexibility, adaptability, and personalization of planning are encouraged at Beormund to suit the needs of the children in any class/year group.
