Archbishop Tenison’s Church of England High School exists to provide a Church of England education primarily for children of Anglican and other Christian families living within the Archdeaconry of Croydon.

Archbishop Tenison's C of E High School is well regarded locally for its high academic standards, the presence of a large Sixth Form, the very high level of pastoral care provided for the pupils, and its Christian ethos. Assemblies are an important part of school life there is an annual Eucharist for each year group all students take Religious Studies at GCSE, with a good number continuing to A-Level.

Many of our pupils stay on into the Sixth Form and students also join from other schools in the Borough and beyond. The Sixth Form offers a range of AS and A2 courses, together with some BTEC courses, based at other centers. Most of the Upper Sixth proceed to Higher Education each year, gaining entry to top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Archbishop Tenison’s aims to provide an education that is broad, balanced, relevant, and accessible to the diverse and close-knit community it serves.

The school is well regarded in the area for its music, drama and sport, especially netball, football, and cricket. Students are active in debating and public speaking.

The rewarding aspect of working at Archbishop Tenison's is reflected by how staff achieves very impressive results in National Mathematical Challenges. There is a wide range of extra-curricular activities with around 40 different clubs and societies. Charity support also features strongly in the life of the Sixth Form and the school. We have a particular link with RUSH in Kenya and each year collect shoeboxes for children at Christmas through the Biggin Hill Romania Group.

Each year there are language exchanges, educational journeys abroad, residential field courses, Duke of Edinburgh, and Christian Union residential weekends.

The school has featured in several guides to good state schools and was described as "Good" in our 2013 OFSTED Report. The school has both a strong sense of traditional values and a readiness to embrace new ideas which are of real benefit to the pupils and students.

Archbishop Tenison’s Church of England School has a distinctive Christian ethos which gives the school its purpose and provides an inclusive environment where children can learn and flourish in a setting shaped by Christian values. We welcome applications from all members of the community and we ask all parents to respect the Christian ethos of the school.

This Christian educational vision also informs the annual School Development Plan, which reviews the school’s work from seven different aspects, each of which is then the focus for a four-year cycle of planning, mostly gradual changes to the school, so that it can continue to fulfill this aim. The Development Plan for each new school year is published in September, with a summary available from the School Office.

Our educational aims:

• to uphold Christian belief through worship and daily life and to enable students to grow in living faith.
• to develop the habit and skills of academic inquiry, intellectual integrity, and a love of learning for its own sake.
• to broaden the student's cultural experience by active involvement in and appreciation of the expressive arts and by examining the role that culture, including science and technology, plays in creating civilized societies.
• to develop an awareness and understanding of their physical capabilities in students through curricular and extra-curricular activities whilst fostering positive attitudes to health and safety and sportsmanship.
• to promote an understanding of different religions and ethnic origins and cultures to reduce intolerance and prejudice to promote the integration into the community of people of all ethnic backgrounds and to foster and develop a strong sense of moral values which are given practical expression in all aspects of the lives of those who make up this school community.
• to create in students an awareness of their abilities enabling them to realize their potential and to play their full part, as Christians, in the wider community in this country and overseas to prepare them for the world of work and to develop within them interests which they will find enriching and fulfilling.
• to encourage pupils towards an understanding of their feelings and the feelings of others, thus developing a friendly, supportive and caring community, in which every student is equally valued.

The school aims to be a center of excellence in all that it does. It is a partnership involving students, staff, and parents, based on mutual respect and a common purpose. Everybody at the school is committed to these aims and is expected to play a full part in their realization.
