DSU enjoys a long history as one of America's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Founded in 1891 as the State College for Colored Students, DSU is proud of our heritage as one of the country's first land-grant educational institutions. Today, we are a welcome center of learning for students from many backgrounds. Our current population includes 65% African-American enrollment and an increasing number of Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, and other international students.

DSC's main campus is located in the historic city of Dover, the capital of Delaware. Arguably one of the best-kept secrets on the East Coast, Dover, provides a small-town feel for students who want to learn without the distractions of an urban campus. However, we are only 1.5 hours away from major cities, including Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington, DC, and a short drive to popular Rehoboth and Ocean City beaches. Our students truly enjoy the best of both worlds. Nestled in a small town, DSU can provide a comprehensive four-year education at a competitive cost and value compared to other schools in the region.
DSU @Georgetown is home to the connected degree program in partnership with DSU and DTCC. We welcome students from a variety of backgrounds. Our current enrollment stands at 4,600, 93% of whom are undergraduate students. Our male to female students' ratio is 36:64, and more than 80% of our freshmen live on campus in one of our nine residence halls.
DSU currently offers 42 undergraduate degree options, an impressive number for a school our size. We also offer 16 master's degree programs and five doctoral degree programs in interdisciplinary applied mathematics/mathematical physics and educational leadership. DSU offers more than 60 academic paths, from undergraduate programs in the traditional liberal arts to doctoral programs in high-level sciences such as neuroscience, optics, and mathematical physics. The Middle States Commission accredits us on Higher Education (MSCHE), and many of our programs have earned national accreditation.
DSU is made up of five academic colleges. Each degree-granting college specializes in a unique field of study, yet they also frequently work together to offer interdisciplinary degree programs and undertake complex research.
Our Adult/Continuing Education division offers test preparation courses, professional certificate programs, and various other learning opportunities to help adults succeed in real-world careers. Technology is changing the way we learn, and at DSU, we offer our students many ways to achieve their academic goals. We offer online and distance learning educational programs for students who cannot pursue their degree programs at one of our campuses.
Our Honors Program admits academically talented students who are committed to intellectual excellence. Students in our Honors Program can pursue innovative learning techniques, including more active intellectual participation, discussion, and involvement in searching for knowledge.
We offer international programs that integrate a global perspective into teaching, research, and study abroad. Our international program department forges mutually beneficial partnerships with higher learning institutions around the world, including a wide range of public and private sector agencies and organizations.
In addition to our national-caliber faculty and extensive program offerings, DSU also provides students with numerous academic support services. These services give students the tools they need to achieve academic and social success, career planning insight, and leadership training.
To help our students transition to college and establish a strong academic foundation, DSU offers various support services. Student Success includes a tutoring center, a writing studio, a qualitative reasoning center, and for-credit courses in learning strategies and speed reading. Job opportunities are more available to you if you are prepared. Career Services is here to coach you through that process and help you connect with potential employers.
DSC's world-renowned faculty help set us apart from other colleges and universities. As a student here, you will gain access to some of the most knowledgeable and dedicated instructors in higher education today, with nearly all of our 200+ faculty members holding doctoral or other terminal degrees. Our faculty's years of practical experience help you connect your classroom learning with your professional and everyday lives.
