Founded in 1956, College of St. Joseph is a small, independent, nonprofit Catholic institution located in Vermont's Green Mountains' heart. Our idyllic 117-wooded acre campus sits on the edge of Rutland's city limits, providing a comfortable walk to both a vibrant downtown and several recreation areas.

CSJ offers 20 undergraduate degree programs and 12 graduate programs, with a family-like campus environment and unparalleled faculty-student interaction. Our diverse community includes students from across the country and highly-qualified instructors and staff.

College of St. Joseph was named a top 100 "Best Bang for the Buck" school by Washington Monthly in 2015 and was ranked in the top 15 percent in The Economist's college rankings. The College has also named the top two Vermont "Best Bang for the Buck" school in 2016.

Through our rich campus environment, you will make friends, discover new experiences, and find a place you feel at home. We have good food and comfortable spaces for living and studying covered, but there is so much more our great college offers.

Many opportunities await you on the CSJ campus: student government, academic honor societies, clubs, attending, or participating in our championship athletic competitions. Our Residence Life Office regularly provides activities, including movies, games, live music, comedy shows, and much more.

The CSJ culture is steeped in civic engagement and community service. Our students, as a whole, give thousands of hours back to the local community each year. As a Provider Scholar, you and your friends can do meaningful service in areas that further your academic interests and help you prepare for a career in your chosen field.

There are no classes on Wednesdays at CSJ. Wednesdays are reserved for academic work, community service, and other meaningful activities. Community Day provides you with regularly scheduled activities to engage and provide significant academic, service, and spiritual opportunities. This also provides students greater access to faculty and staff outside of the traditional classroom setting, as they are available to students in the Library for academic support. Community Days also feature a family-style lunch with faculty, staff, and students, allowing us to enjoy a little downtime together. Great conversation over a nice meal? That is what families do.

CSJ is one of the most affordable private colleges in New England because we are committed to increasing college accessibility through our hallmark Provider Scholarship Program. Our Financial Aid Office helps students understand all of their options, from loans to our work-study program, payment plans, etc.

College of St. Joseph provides you with the resources you need on your path to a successful college experience. We support your academic success throughout your undergraduate and graduate career with one-¬on¬-one academic advising, individualized attention at the Learning Center, and opportunities for peer-¬to¬-peer tutoring in various academic areas.

The Food Services staff at CSJ goes above and beyond to make your dining experience extraordinary. Our Food Services Director, Muffie Harvey, prides herself on the ability to know the students that she serves and encourages students to bring in their family recipes for the campus community to try. This willingness to experience different meals brings another level of cultural experience to campus and enthusiasm to embrace different cultures within our community. The College also serves a community meal for the entire CSJ family once a week.

Our Career Services Office is dedicated to providing you with the tools and resources to achieve success during your time at CSJ and beyond, whether it helps to choose a meaningful, securing internships at local organizations and nonprofits, creating a great cover letter, or searching for your first job after graduation.

Nestled in the Green Mountains, the College of St. Joseph campus provides breathtaking views throughout the seasons. There is something to discover at every corner of our 117-acre campus, which sits near Pine Hill Park and vibrant downtown Rutland.

After years of educating their members within the motherhouse walls on Convent Avenue in Rutland, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Rutland purchased the campus of Rutland Junior College to establish a training center for their young novices and continue their education in the sisters' regular school.

In 1956, a core group of courageous women led by Sr. Mary Matthew McDevitt, the College's first president, former St. Joseph's Teacher's College. To foster the fledgling College's growth, she formed an affiliation with the Catholic University of America.
