According to the Brookings Institution, CSU is No. 18 in the U.S. among public universities that fulfill a critical dual mission: providing upward mobility and conducting impactful research. CSU is the only Ohio university in the top tier of the Brookings list. For the 2017-2018 academic year, CSU welcomed the largest freshman class in its history, with 2,000 first-year students. In the fall of 2018, we will unveil CSU's new School of Film & Media Arts – the only standalone film school in Ohio – located on the Idea Center's top floor at Playhouse Square. CSU has strengthened its ties to Cleveland through a series of forward-thinking partnerships. Campus International School and MC2STEM High School provide pathways to college for young people through the Education Park that CSU has created with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District. ENGAGE: The Campaign for CSU exceeded its goal – two years ahead of schedule – and raised more than $114 million, primarily to benefit scholarships and student success programs.CSU President Harlan M. Sands, who took office on June 1, 2018, is the seventh president in the university's history. A highly regarded and widely respected higher education leader, President Sands comes to CSU from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. With world-class partners in health care, the arts, and other industries, Cleveland State University is sharing knowledge, research, and resources to make a positive and meaningful difference not only within our campus community but in the community at large and beyond. CSU students can explore a unique opportunity for early admission to medical school at Northeast Ohio College of Medicine (NEOMED) through the NEOMED-CSU Partnership for Urban Health, which addresses the critical need for primary-care physicians with specific training for underserved urban communities. In this groundbreaking initiative, medical students perform their clinical training in city neighborhoods, where they connect directly with families for extended periods to yield more specialized health care. The Academic Campus of NEOMED at CSU is one of only five schools nationally to receive a joint grant from the Association of American Medical Colleges and the National Institute on Minority Health and Disparities. Students in grade school and high school have a more straightforward path to college, thanks to CSU collaborations and the Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD). Campus International School, an elementary school partnership between CSU and CMSD, is an "IB World School" accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization. The school embraces a rigorous curriculum with an international focus, and students study the Mandarin Chinese language through a partnership with the Confucius Institute at CSU. Education majors have an invaluable workshop at the school, which currently offers grades K-6 and eventually will expand to K-12. Test scores indicate that the school, located on the CSU campus, is a top performer. We are one of America's Best Colleges (according to U.S. News & World Report).
