Even though Bluefield State is one of the most affordable schools in West Virginia, our curricula are second-to-none for building a great career. More than 60 percent of our graduates earn degrees in STEM disciplines, including nursing, biology, and engineering. Currently, our student body represents more than 20 countries, including Saudi Arabia, Gambia, Nigeria, Bahamas, Belgium, Spain, New Zealand, Netherlands, Macedonia, Ukraine, Venezuela, Serbia, Brazil, Italy, Canada, Germany, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Uzbekistan, Guatemala, Liberia, Poland, Sweden, and India. We accept both first-time international freshmen and those who have already taken courses at another institution.
For students who have graduated from high school (or secondary school) and completed some college course work at another higher education institution, we are ready to help you apply to Bluefield State College.

Whether you’re working a full-time job, managing busy home life, or experiencing some other challenge in getting to campus, we want to meet you where you are. Through our degree programs and courses, we aim to work with students in non-traditional ways, so that the steps toward a college degree are possible. Online courses don’t meet in person. Instead, course content is delivered via the internet, TV, CDs, or DVDs. There may be opportunities for live events like conferences or lectures as well.
As an online student, keeping up with weekly assignments and deadlines is vital to your success. Since your class attendance isn’t tracked, assignments are used to determine how well you are completing the course. If you are not timely with your assignments, your grade will reflect that.
Classes are conducted through a learning management system, Moodle. This Unique learning environment facilitated by Bluefield State faculty contains both materials recorded during in-person classes and material created primarily for online courses. Students can use Moodle from anywhere they can connect to the internet.
