"Engineering spirit" contains the idea of pursuing engineering as a lifelong path. It also expresses the hope that young people will rise to meet today's challenges and tomorrow as engineers.

In the 21st century, we will be called upon to create a sustainable society in symbiosis with nature while guaranteeing safety, security, and prosperity for all. Young engineers will be the driving force that ensures that we meet these lofty goals, with their passion for high technology and their inventive "engineering spirit." Toyama Prefectural University offers specialized knowledge and education in engineering disciplines, with six undergraduate study courses and a graduate school with 5-degree programs. At our University, we provide an excellent educational environment for research to awaken and foster our students' "engineering spirit."

Toyama Prefectural University was founded in 1990, with a mission to:

Toyama Prefectural University (TPU) seeks to expand its range of vision, ethical sense of environment, and environmental literacy for a sustainable society. TPU offers an educational program to ensure that all university graduates are environmentally literate and have the awareness and understanding to be ecologically responsible citizens.

The University Library is a circular two-story building, having a total floor area of 2,440m². The lower floor offers an open shelving stack room, carrels, and group study rooms; the mezzanine floors feature reading desks and tables. The upper floor has the entrance gate, the information counter, serial and reference collections, and a viewing room equipped with DVD players. Collaborative learning tables are provided in the study space in front of the entrance gate.

The library houses approximately 167,000 volumes, 3,800 periodicals including electronic journals, and 600 multimedia materials. Natural science and engineering materials are featured, while literature and the social sciences are also held. Faculty members and students of Toyama Prefectural University can search books or journals on-site with librarians or online using the library database. The library is open to community residents as well. Over 36,000 people visit the library every year.

Cooperation with the community and industry is one of the most important outreach activities of the University. Since its foundation, the center has worked as the gateway to the University for citizens and industry. The center has been supported by the "Kenkyu- Kyoryokukai" (The Society for the Promotion of Cooperative Research), which was also established in 2004. It now consists of 211 enterprises and 14 individuals.

Toyama Prefectural University maintains one of Japan's top success rates in securing employment upon graduation. The Career Center promotes" broad-based life career education" to build in students a spirit of independence that supports effective decisions on career choices in collaboration with various organizations and business communities in the area.

The University welcomes international students who wish to study in any of its programs. It also invites teachers and researchers from abroad who can work with its faculty and enrich its educational and research projects. Research resulting from such exchanges is reported at international conferences for academic and industrial advancement.
