JIU was founded in 1992 by the Josai University Corporation in the city of Togane, Chiba Prefecture, about 90 minutes from downtown Tokyo.
There are four graduate schools Graduate School of Global Humanities, Graduate School of Management and Information Sciences, Graduate School of Social Welfare, and Graduate School of Business Design. The university has over 6,000 students, including the undergraduate student body and the graduate program. Many of the students come from various foreign countries.
Our Global Vision is to prepare students for employment in a broad range of fields, courses in English and necessary computer skills are required in all departments. For broader perspectives and more sophisticated problem-solving abilities, students may take courses in other departments. The credits earned in these courses will be counted towards the credits required for graduation.
JIU offers a variety of courses on Japan Japanese history, Japanese culture, Japanese art, and literature. Experts teach courses in English and Japanese. JIU also offers Japanese language courses from basic to advanced and advanced reading courses.
Besides the international presence in our student body, the university faculty also mirrors the growing, dynamic importance of "international" in Twenty-first-century universities. Our teachers come from many countries and international backgrounds. In this way, the campus is a nexus of cultural exchange and awareness.
JIU offers you not only a reliable international education but also a variety of Japanese cultural experiences. You can join many of its extracurricular activities, such as ikebana, karate, Japanese tea ceremony (Sado), judo, kendo, soccer, basketball, surfing, and table tennis, along with many others. Some of JIU's sports teams are renowned in Japan for their consistently high national ranking.
Students from overseas also can join the various student organizations to learn to experience Japanese culture.
JIU prides itself on its youthful ambition and energy, on its commitment to forming the characters of young people with dreams and noble visions of working for the benefit of both local and international communities. The university is guided by its founder's spiritual legacy, a mission of "character building through learning" in helping students make themselves responsible individuals and members of society at large.
JIU provides much more than specialized and liberal education in the classroom.
The first of these three programs, "field training," was first introduced in Japan by JIU and included various internships and on-the-job training. The second program is "project training," in which students undertake various projects they have conceived and planned independently. The third is "career education," in which students choose their future occupations and prepare for their careers by developing their capabilities. Through these and other training and education programs, JIU helps students to find their mission in life and offers them reliable support with specific preparation training.
