The Hyogo University of Teacher Education is a front-runner in both practice of and research into teacher education in Japan. As a university specializing in this area, we have an excellent faculty of teacher education, as well as one of Japan's largest Master's and professional degree programs and Ph.D. programs.

The intention was to promote comprehensive research into the theory and application of a wide range of scientific matters related to school education and future foster teachers, with creativity, intelligence, and humanity, who can play an essential role in culture and society.

Many in-service teachers are enrolled as graduate students in the Master's and professional degree programs to improve their expertise and enhance practical abilities as an extremely talented teacher. Education and research at this university are oriented toward the "integration of theory and practice," and we have named this approach the "science of school education." Researchers in this field are being developed in the Joint Graduate School (Ph.D. program) in the Science of School Education.

In response to the growing demands of globalization, this university is actively committed to developing international exchange and contribution initiatives. We have concluded agreements with 25 universities in 12 countries in Asia, the United States, and Europe to implement exchanges between researchers and students. Through these initiatives, both professors and students from these affiliated universities and our university visit each other and conduct joint research into useful teaching materials and instruction methods to be used in school education in countries worldwide.

We have a variety of facilities, including residential houses for researchers and students from overseas. Citizens in Kato City also offer to be host families for students as powerful support for our university. These opportunities can be precious and beneficial for them to enjoy Japan's beautiful nature and local hospitality.

In order to meet the social need to empower teachers through professional development and betterment of school education in Japan, Hyogo University of Teacher Education strives to perform the following missions:
