Gifu College of Nursing was founded in 2000 to contribute to enhancing the quality of nursing service to ensure the general welfare in Gifu Prefecture. The College established the master's course in 2004 and the doctoral course in 2006, as well as its transition to an independent administrative agency in 2010, has continuously assumed the designation of a higher educational institute of nursing in Gifu Prefecture and has also provided the learning environment that enhances the competence of problem-solving in nursing practice.

The nature of nursing science lies in establishing the theoretical methodology and scientific basis for a public health nurse, a midwife, a nurse leading a research activity to ensure the healthy life of each person, and raising the quality of nursing science.

In an undergraduate course, the basics of nursing science are provided for preparing for the national examination.

As nursing science requires continuous lifelong study, we have established a unique curriculum that provides liberal arts at higher grade years and nursing research based on practicum.

Gifu College of Nursing has been devoted to a wide range of nursing associations. The improvement of nursing practice is based on a collaborative study with nurses in Gifu Prefecture. Through these educational and research activities, we are now to provide a variety of opportunities for lifelong study for nurses in Gifu Prefecture.

Gifu College of Nursing is a prefectural higher educational institute. Regarding health maintenance, medical care, and welfare fields in Gifu prefecture, the faculty teaches creative problem-solving methods from a theoretical background based on research and educates its students to be a driving force for reform. To achieve these aims, the College pursues excellent health care that fits the local culture and lifestyle and performs vigorous research activities concerning nursing practice. The College provides learning activities rich with practical and applied educational materials based on research findings. Nursing is a discipline that requires nurses' continuous professionalism throughout their life. The College guides the students to this professionalism through its unique educational program.

The College's objective is to educate nursing professionals to have a basic knowledge and skills of human caring necessary for nursing practice. Furthermore, nurses are required to have the accountability to solve nursing problems and always practice creative problem-solving activities.

The students will:

• Have the ability to practice as a generalist with the basic knowledge and skills necessary for nursing practice.
• Develop a deep understanding of human beings regarding their daily life, and improve their judgment skills.
• Have the ability to understand and support the clients' essential problem-solving capacities and their family and local communities.
• Have the ability to cooperate with other professionals in the health, medical care, and welfare arenas, with people living in the local area, and with people related to the patient's care.
• Develop a basic knowledge of nursing research in order to improve nursing practice through practicing nursing.

The baccalaureate program provides a firm base of knowledge and skills needed to perform the functions mentioned above.
