The University Institute of Architecture of Reggio Calabria was born on On December 6, 1967, the University of Reggio Calabria's core founders. The acknowledgment comes with the Decree of the President of the Republic on June 17, 1968, which marks the birth of the Free University Institute of Architecture (IUSA ). Professor Salvatore Boscarino held on the first lesson on December 18, 1967, on the theme "Elements of architecture and monuments of relief."

The University has recently established the University College, located near the campus, not far from the historic city center, and manages accommodation.
The function of the College is not only to provide accommodation for the students who are entitled to it but also to organize events and services that promote the social and cultural integration of students and their active participation in university life, not only in their educational commitments but also in their recreational time. Places in the College are assigned at the beginning of each academic year, in line with a means test.
