PGRI University of Semarang was established by the PGRI Regional Executive Board of Central Java Province through Yayasan Pembina Lembaga Pendidikan (YPLP) IKIP PGRI Central Java is a change of form from IKIP PGRI Semarang with Academy of Technology Semarang. Its establishment aims to prepare prospective perilipin unique and national character to be an example in the life of nation and state in achieving the welfare of Indonesia. In the history of its development, the journey of PGRI University of Semarang can be divided into five significant periods.
The first period was called the pioneering phase (1981-1986). This period was marked by establishing the Teachers' Training College of Central Java PGRI (STIKIP PGRI) on July 23, 1981, by the Executive Board of Central Java Teachers' Association (PGRI-Semarang) leadership of Drs. Are Riwidigdo and other founders such asTaruna, S.H. Drs? Is Riwidigdo Drs. Karseno Drs. Anthony R. Supardi Hadiatmodjo Drs. Muhammad Oemar Drs. Thomas Patience Adiutomo Drs. Nawawi Abdul Latif S.H. With the decree of Ministry of Education No. 0395/0/1984, Teachers' Training College of Central Java PGRI (STIKIP PGRI) was upgraded into Semarang Institute of Teachers' Training PGRI(IKIP PGRI Semarang. The second period is the period of institutional development (1987-1992). Under the leadership of Rector Taruna, SH, STKIP PGRI Central Java changed its name to AI IKIP PGRI Semarang.
The vision of the University is to be an excellent university with its distinct characters. Mision of the University Menyelenggarakan Catur Dharma (Pendidikan, Penelitian, Pengabdian Conducting Four Dharma (teaching and learning, conducting research, doing community services, and leading by example) and imbuing graduates with Indonesian characters to be qualified human resources and respected leaders for the improvement of life all humanity. Specific To develop qualified human resources and respected leaders for the betterment of the society To form leaders who are superior and characteristic of Nationality. Develop and disseminate science and technology, culture, and art concerning a global challenge, national commitment, and local wisdom To establish a well-fare society through educated human resources.
A Lambang University is an image with the following colors. It shapes The design External line forms the picture of a four-sided shield with its blue background and five elements: a torch, two golden wings, red flame, and golden brown letter of UNIVERSITAS PGRI SEMARANG. The blue color implies the University's vision as wide and as high as the sky of lazuardi in developing science and always adaptable to change. The golden yellow color symbolizes the hope of the nation's glory through education that produces the young generation that can compete in globalization. The red color symbolizes the spirit and courage in carrying out the task of educating the younger generation of nation's fighters. According to the University's purpose, the shield symbolizes the University's defense and resilience to always maintain its name as one of the universities that can produce a professional, superior, and professional young generation. The four-sided form of the shield symbolizes the University serving through Catur Dharma, namely Tri Dharma PerguruanTinggi and Dharma peneladanan. The torch symbolizes the University's function as an institution of higher education with the sacred and full devotion to the nation for enhancing science and technology in Indonesia. The flame with five rays symbolizes Pancasila ideology's meaning and the technical meaning of the goal of manners, creation, taste, initiation, and generation work. Right-wing and right-wing each consist of five strands of feathers containing the meaning of development to make a reputable University at regional, national, and international levels with two educational and non-educational mandates.
