The Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon was officially founded in 1933. However, its origins are older with Law, Medicine and Pharmacy, Escuela Normal, and Colegio Civil, which were established before that time. These were critical principles for the institution's foundation, which took place on September 25th, 1933, with 1,862 students and 218 professors.

At its inception, this university's name was Universidad de Nuevo Leon, now U.A.N.L. stands for Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. The Maximum Academic Institution in the State originally consisted of the Schools of Law and Social Sciences, Medicine, Engineering, Chemistry, and Pharmacy, along with Escuela Normal, Escuela Industrial "Alvaro Obregón," Technical High School "Pablo Livas," Industrial High School of Women Labors "Pablo Livas," and the School of Nursery and Obstetrics.

To educate high school students, technicians, professionals, university professors, and researchers to perform efficiently in a knowledge-based society with a broad sense of the meaning of life and awareness of regional, national and global issues. They will apply university principles and values and will be committed to the sustainable, financial, scientific, technological, and cultural development of humanity.

Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon is in 2030 an international reference for its educational quality, inclusion, equity, generation, and innovative application of knowledge with a complete sense of social responsibility that contributes and transcends in the transformation welfare of society.

Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon was officially established on September 25th, 1933, by a vote of the Honorable Congress of Nuevo Leon. With a legacy of 86 years, it is now the largest educational institution in northern Mexico and the third most important university in the country.

A total of 324 academic programs are offered at our 29 high schools, 26 undergraduate schools, and the Social Research Institute. Additionally, 31 of these programs are dual degree options taught in collaboration with other internationally prestigious universities.

More than 206,600 students are currently enrolled in academic programs at our high school, undergraduate, and graduate levels.

Through its schools and campuses, U.A.N.L. provides education to 34 municipalities of Nuevo Leon, a significant part of the bordering states, and many students from the rest of the country.

Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon awarded 216,661 grants and scholarships in 2019:

• 82,934 for high school students
• 127,611 for undergraduate students
• 6,116 for graduate students

All of our high school programs have the highest national quality certification. Furthermore, 42 undergraduate programs and 16 graduate programs hold international accreditation.

In 2018, our athletes accomplished great things:

• U.A.N.L. won the National University Championships for the fourteenth year in a row, earning 143 medals.
• The Autenticos Tigres major and youth league football teams conquered their respective O.N.E.F.A. categories. In contrast, the intermediate league team took the prize for the seventh consecutive year in the same championship.

The U.A.N.L. Integrated Library System gives access to a collection of 2,011,455 books and 45 databases using 37 library units.
