Stavropol State Medical University was founded in 1938. Since that time, thousands of highly skilled specialists working worldwide were prepared at the University. Their successful career growth is the pride of our University. The University is situated in the large administrative, industrial, agricultural, scientific and cultural center — the city of Stavropol, which is considered a pearl of the South of Russia. Throughout several centuries the representatives of more than 100 nationalities with their original culture and traditions live there in peace and confidence. Nowadays, the University is one of the authoritative educational and scientific medical centers of our country. In 2010 all activity spheres of the University were licensed, and the State Accreditation Certificate was received.
Our graduates work in different places in our country and abroad; they are the University's trademark. Many of them head scientific research institutes, laboratories, faculties, and higher school chairs. The University has 75 chairs where 97 Doctors of Sciences, more than 300 Candidates of Sciences, 47 Honoured Physicians of the Russian Federation, 4 Honoured Scientists of the Russian Federation work. There are seven faculties in the University where 4 500 Russian and international students from 33 countries are trained. In 2011 at Stavropol State Medical University, new lines for preparation of specialists are opened: defectology, biology, biotechnology, physical training for persons with health deviations, economics, social work.
Stavropol State Medical University is one of the few Russian medical universities recognized by the Medical Council of India. The University is listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools published by the World Health Organization (WHO), which enables our graduates to hold a job in any country of the world after taking national examinations. The activity of the University has been marked by high international award Earthmaker, which testifies belonging to a community of world leaders of various industries, sciences, cultures, and national health services. It is awarded the Diploma and the Gold Medal as the winner of the competitions The European Quality in the nomination of 100 Best Higher Schools», the Cannes Silver Medal For Dynamic Development and the title Flagman of XXI Century, the Gold Medal of the International Biography Center and the Gold Diploma of the World Sciences International Forum, the winner of the All-Russia Economy Project Modernization Leaders» in the nomination Enterprise of the Year 2010.
Students of the University are encouraged to participate in different research projects, work within the Students and Young Researchers Society showing their results at annual conferences, and winning prizes in all-Russian or international fora. The University has seven computer classes, a modern library, which numbers about 500 000 copies of books and periodicals, its editions, the newspaper «Medicus» and a scientific practice magazine. There is an Internet center within the library.
Within 50 years, the University trains international students. During this time, the University has prepared 1,200 physicians, residents, and interns for 77 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Stavropol State Medical University is listed in the World Directory of medical schools published by the World Health Organization (WHO) that gives graduates a chance to get a job in any country of the world after passing the national exam.
In 2005, the English-speaking Medium was opened in the University, where the training is conducted in English. The University has a modern material and technical base, allowing it to provide a high educational level. Four buildings of the University are equipped with modern learning and medical technics, computer classes, and an electronic library. The training is carried out according to the curricula specially adapted to international students' national programs and authorized by the Ministry of Health and Social Development of Russia. The University has four educational buildings, a dentistry out-patient department, an eye microsurgery clinic, and a borderline psychic disorders clinic.
The University created the conditions for improvement of the students' health. The Center of Students' Health is opened at our University, where the specialists continuously monitor the students' health indicators during the whole study at the University. Stavropol State Medical University is the only educational establishment in our city, a sanatorium, where the students receive comprehensive treatment or improve their health. Annually during summer vacations, our students rest in a sports camp at the Black Sea coast. The University has a sports complex with a 25-meters' swimming pool, two-sport halls, three gyms, and an outdoor basketball court.
