As we know it, Kiel University of Applied Sciences was founded on 1 August 1969 as a result of the merger of several state-run schools of engineering and technical colleges, which in themselves can look back on a history of more than 100 years. Its campus is located directly on the waterfront of Kiel's firth.
With more than 7,400 students (2015), Kiel University of Applied Sciences is the largest institution in Schleswig-Holstein. Those interested in studying here can choose from a wide range of options: around 30 Bachelor's and Master's degrees, supplementary degrees, and continuing education courses are offered by the faculties of Agriculture, Business Management, Computer Science & Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Media, and Social Work & Health.
The Faculty of Agriculture can be found not far from Kiel in rural Osterrönfeld, near Rendsburg on the Kiel Canal. The University's main campus is located in Kiel.
A final or target state aimed at by the University of Applied Sciences of Kiel has been formulated based on its vision and guidelines. Every employee must implement this. The vision and guidelines shall also be used to communicate the University's profile and objectives to the outside world. We are the University of excellence for teaching in northern Germany.

We incorporate relevant developments in the sciences, society, and industry and implement them in future-oriented degree programs. Our University sees itself as an innovative pacesetter for the State of Schleswig-Holstein. Our University is a reliable and innovative partner for businesses and non-profit organizations. Our University uses its international orientation to promote its regional strengths. It continues to expand its cooperation with other universities, organizations, and companies. Our University thrives on diversity. It creates educational processes that are gender appropriate, intercultural, and non-discriminatory. The objectives set out in the guidelines of the Kiel University of Applied Sciences have shaped pioneering aspirations. Working on the essential interdisciplinary issues of gender, diversity, sustainability, and family, we contribute to implementing those guidelines and realizing that we will be the north's institution to be awarded the Higher Education Institute Teaching Excellence.
