EduCativ
Founded in 1857, Albert College is Canada's oldest, independent, co-educational, day and boarding school. With over 150 years of experience and excellence in education, Albert College provides an enriched and engaging curriculum from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 / Post Graduate. A 'home away from home' to students from Canada and over 20 nations, Albert College, offers residency to both male and female students beginning in Grade 7. We believe in a well-rounded education, and at Albert, our students embrace Albert's 'A's – Academics, Arts, Athletics, Active Citizenship, and Adventure as part of their university preparation. Albert College is a beautiful day and international co-educational boarding school, steeped in history and tradition. Not only does it have a stellar reputation for preparing young people for university and life, but Albert College is also recognized for developing global citizens within a close family environment. The international makeup of Albert College helps foster understanding and tolerance. As technological advances continue to make our world indeed a global village, what better environment could there be in which to prepare students for the world that awaits them? As a small Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12 school, Albert provides opportunities for its students, which would be impossible in a larger school. With a focus on the 5 'A's: Academics, Arts, Athletics, Active Citizenship, and Adventure, our students have an incredibly wide array of curricular and co-curricular opportunities in these areas. Our objective is to help students polish talents and discover new ones within a caring and nurturing environment that values individuality, compassion, integrity, and inclusiveness. You can find our beautiful 25-acre campus in Belleville, Ontario. Belleville is located on Lake Ontario with easy access to Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Words and pictures can only begin to tell the story. I hope that after browsing online, you will visit us in person. You will be glad that you did. In support of our school's vision of commitment to academic excellence, our academic program is as demanding as it is rewarding. Our students are challenged by the expectations, encouraged by members of a safe, close family community, and supported by resources that enable their success in achieving their full potential. The teaching and learning at Albert College take into consideration the diverse needs of our student population from more than 20 nationalities. We offer the security of established structure and curriculum, combined with a contemporary, dynamic, and innovative educational practice that focuses on the development of the child. Our class sizes are small, with a student-teacher ratio of 8 to 1. This ensures that each student receives personal individual attention and the opportunity to develop positive relationships with faculty and staff. Albert College provides students an education in intimate settings: Early Childhood Learning Center (EPLC) (Preschool and Junior Kindergarten) Junior School (Senior Kindergarten to Grade 6) Middle School (Grade 7 and Senior School (Grade 9 to 12). Albert College offers a Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program for children 2.5 to 3 years old. The Pre-K program shares space with the Junior Kindergarten program in our Early Primary Learning Centre (EPLC) located at 28 Highland Avenue. The purpose of the Pre-K program is to focus on the development of the whole child – physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and intellectual – in preparation for early and ongoing success in our formal Junior and Senior Kindergarten. Developing strong foundations and a love for learning is an integral part of what we do at the Junior School. A mix of tradition, innovation, and student-directed learning provides the support and challenges our students to need to achieve their goals. Using the Ontario Curriculum as a guide to assist the transition for students joining us anytime, we have the flexibility to offer programming that motivates our students, allowing for more meaningful connections and deeper learning. An early introduction to French and instrumental music and large-scale performances are just a few ways that the Albert College experience differs from other educational options. These provide opportunities for students to engage in music, arts, literacy development, and enhance their self-confidence. Please be sure to read more about the Albert EPLC and Junior School program in our Life at Albert section under the other four 'A's: Arts, Athletics, Active Citizenship, and Adventure. Special showcase events where parents are invited into the classroom to share in their child's learning highlight the importance of integration across numerous academic strands. The Middle School consists of students in Grades 7 and 8. The faculty actively encourage students to develop critical academically-related habits and skills that will allow them to achieve academic success. Albert College offers a robust academic program that exceeds the Ontario curriculum standards and is delivered by passionate teachers equipped with specialist qualifications and Master's degrees. Throughout the academic year, students receive feedback on six specific learning skills. These reports are reviewed with the student's parents, as well as with the student's Academic Advisor, to allow for reflection and the opportunity to improve. Strategies are then developed to help the individual achieve their potential. The Middle School firmly believes in the correlation between strong learning skills and academic success. Much time is dedicated to developing learning skills to best prepare students for success in their future academics. Six learning skills are essential for student success and are assessed on an ongoing basis throughout the academic year. These skills include Organization, Initiative, Responsibility, Self-Regulation, Independent Work, and Collaboration, about the environment in which the student works. Some students naturally have most of these learning skills and can demonstrate them consistently. Other students require more of a hands-on approach to developing some of these skills. Albert College offers a diverse academic program. The curriculum exceeds the standards set by the Ontario curriculum and is delivered by passionate teachers equipped with specialist qualifications and Master's degrees. Through extensive counseling and full-year academic-level courses, we strive to develop an academic program suited to each student, which will challenge and enable students to achieve ambitious post-secondary goals.
