Beuth University was founded in 1971 as the Technische Fachhochschule Berlin (TFH) when several engineering academies were merged. To highlight the long tradition of the university and the institutions that preceded it, the TFH was renamed the Beuth University of Applied Sciences Berlin in 2009.

The cluster Infrastructures for the City of the Future attempts to meet specific spatial, logistical, and communication requirements to shape virtually and enhance living conditions in the City of the Future, like optimize the urban dweller's mobility, modern communication structures, and the multifaceted media landscape as well as create and preserve open spaces, green areas, and recreational facilities.
The cluster Urban Technologies for the City of the Future comprises energy generation issues, building construction, transportation systems, and environment protection. The broad spectrum of research topics includes construction engineering, building technology, water economics, transport planning, and electric mobility / electric-powered vehicles. The primary focus is devoted to the employment of sustainable energies and the development of relevant, efficient technologies.
Research at Beuth University is geared towards developing the competence clusters (City of the Future) in the long term.
The research focus of "Life Sciences" includes processes and structures of living organisms, from microorganisms to the human body and complex ecosystems. Central aspects of life sciences are researched like pharmaceutical technology, biological science, or food technology.
