We are a young university, officially recognized by the Parliament of Catalonia in May 1997. We want to play a part in Europe and the more expansive world-building on our strong Catalan roots. From its very beginnings, UVic-UCC has promoted academic quality and a humane context for student-centered training. Our teaching programs offer quality and contact with students, as required for the European Higher Education Area. We also feel a strong commitment to Catalonia - its university system and the language and culture - and regional development. We contribute to services outside the Barcelona area and promote a sustainable future.

The UVic-UCC is under the authority of the Fundació Universitària Balmes, whose Board of Governors has a majority of representatives from the Vic City Council and the Generalitat of Catalonia. This combined model of independent management and public control guarantees a flexible, accountable, and efficient government.

Our vocation to public service, as outlined in the founding parliamentary text itself, is reflected in Generalitat financial support and UVic-UCC participation in the general Catalan university enrolment scheme.

The University of Vic: the Central University of Catalonia emerged from a regional and citizens' initiative to continue with a university tradition that goes back to the Middle Ages. UVic-UCC is a public university under private management. It provides a public service in teaching, research, and knowledge transfer in its fields of expertise.

Its mission is to develop knowledge and innovation to serve the region, and it has a distinctive international vocation. It focuses on students and their comprehensive training and instills individual creativity, professional rigor, and social commitment. The UVic-UCC is closely associated with the local environment and Catalonia's cultural, social, and economic progress.

The University of Vic: the Central University of Catalonia is governed by the Balmes University Foundation (in Spanish), whose board comprises three representatives from the Catalan Government, 16 from municipal bodies, 12 from civil society and associated entities, and three representatives of the university itself. This system of public control and private management facilitates an efficient, responsible, flexible model of governance.

The training model (in Spanish) of the UVic-UCC ensures full personal growth and professional development of students, who are accompanied throughout their training so that learning is personalized. Training is organized through the teamwork of teachers and the entire university community.

The UVic considers multilingual training an essential aspect for increased mobility of university students and staff, and the study of languages and culture and excellent vehicles for gaining a broader awareness of today's world. All undergraduate courses include several credits in English for professional purposes.

The universal scope of UVic-UCC science and training builds on Catalan society's present-day reality –with the Catalan language as its shared symbol of identity– and Europe as a unifying force. UVic-UCC considers international exchange programs and internships abroad to be essential.

The UVic-UCC has an Education Innovation and Training Centre (CIFE) (in Spanish) to promote lifelong learning of university teaching staff, tutorial plans, and innovation to improve teaching quality.

UVic is a local university committed to the economic and social development of the surrounding region and Catalonia (in Spanish) through its teaching, research, and knowledge transfer activity, imbued with a distinctive European and international vocation.

At the UVic-UCC and FUBalmes, which is the university's owner, ethical behavior is based on three values: individual commitment, impartiality, and scientific truth. The University's Ethical Code (in Spanish) comprises twelve general principles designed to raise people's awareness of the need for ethical behavior and their responsibilities as members of the UVic-UCC community and FUBalmes.
