EduCativ Posted November 17, 2020 Share Posted November 17, 2020 The University of Food Technologies: Plovdiv was established as the Higher Institute of Food and Flavor Industries (HIFFI) by Decree No. 230 of the Presidium of the National Assembly of Bulgaria of 10 July 1953. This academic center for education and research in food science and technology is the only one in the Balkans. Following its successful accreditation in January 2003, the HIFFI was transformed into a university under a Decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria. On 23.01.2003, by the decision of the 39th Parliament of R Bulgaria, the HIFFI was transformed into the University of Food Technologies - Plovdiv (UFT). Founded in 1953 as the Higher Institute of Food and Flavour Industries (HIFFI), today, the University of Food Technologies combines modern techniques with traditional concepts and a dynamic approach to teaching and research. Our students are involved in a wide range of exciting areas of study in food science, engineering, technology, tourism, biotechnology, economics, computer, and information technology. Training is structured in three degrees – Bachelor’s, Masters, and Doctoral. Many of our graduates have made a career as managers of state-owned or private companies and have become distinguished scientists or prominent public figures. Our achievements as a leading university result from the joint efforts of experts of different fields - a process that is both innovative and inspiring. Cooperation with business and other organizations is designed to ensure the convertibility and dissemination of academic knowledge. The flexible model of teaching and research, applied by the UFT in the 21st century, is developed within the Qualification Framework of the European Higher Education Area and is designed to meet the demands of a rapidly changing education and professional experience a local, European or global level. The mission and purposes of the UFT have always offered solutions to national problems concerning the development of the food and flavor industry, biotechnology, catering, and tourism, as well as industrial management, economics of food industry, heat engineering, computer systems and technologies, mechanical engineering and automation of production. In its activities, the UFT is led by experience gathered in more than 70 years, alongside a constant collaboration with other higher schools in the country and abroad specialized in the same professional fields. Quality and European integration are priorities of the activities of the academic society of the UFT. International integration of the University of Food Technologies is focused on maintaining the old and establishing new contacts with higher educational institutions and organizations from abroad participation in and organization of international scientific forums, training seminars, workshops, and developing international networks. The University of Food Technologies is continually working to develop its international dimension, establishing and developing networks and partnerships that guarantee cooperation about education, research, and relations with industry. The University of Food Technologies develops its international dimension in education and research strengthening international mobility programs, establishing agreements with prominent institutions and organizations worldwide, and launching innovative projects to improve mutual exchange and bring to Plovdiv academics from specific areas of study.
