The first affiliated school was established by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church in 1993. The Woodthorpe School provides a unique learning environment for students, guided by our focus on “Learning to Learn.” A self-directed approach to teaching and learning provides a foundation for lifelong learning and prepares students for tertiary education and the workplace.

As a school, we are a highly respected academic facility that demands high standards from ourselves. The school is happy to be judged objectively against other schools on performance criteria that meet government standards to fulfill student potential. We are committed to achieving the highest teaching levels from our staff and academic potential from our students. This focus on high standards and student-driven learning has resulted in achievement levels for our students above the national average in Western Australia.

Woodthorpe School is a registered private school, which operates multiple campuses. With one central administration, the campuses work in close cooperation, sharing expertise, professional learning opportunities, and resources.

Woodthorpe is a registered private school providing education recognized by the Government but free of detrimental influences in society. Our mission is to ensure that our students develop the understanding, skills, knowledge, and attitudes that are compatible with their beliefs and enable them to fulfill their potential and contribute to their community and the community at large. To enhance children’s learning by:

• Providing high-quality learning Programmes matched to individual students’ needs and aimed at promoting their eventual full participation in society.
• Recruiting, developing, and retaining the best available teaching and support staff ensures all the school’s learning goals.
• Establishing a supportive school community and to be responsive to its educational needs and wishes.
• Treating all children equally and providing them with skills, and the environment, to work well with their peers and the wider community.

Objectives arising from our Mission Statement teaching/Learning Programmes developed by the school will:

• Be consistent with the school’s relevant policies
• Have content that is linked to student’s needs and interest
• Employ a range of teaching strategies that are appropriate for the students
• Incorporate across-curriculum perspectives
• Specify intended learning outcomes and detailed assessment and evaluation procedures
• Pre-test assessment needs to teach to assess needs and evaluate accordingly

A supportive and progressive Board of Trustees will endeavor to:

• Provide an opportunity for teacher training and relevant feedback
• Update facilities, teaching aids, technology aids
• Endeavor to ensure that an effective appraisal system is supported
• Be receptive to teaching problems and concerns

Our school will:

• Provide an opportunity for open and continual communication and respond to general concerns. Parents will be made to feel welcome to come and communicate.
• Maintain equity in all curriculum areas.
