It is organized in five faculties and is active in several studies and research areas: architecture, communication sciences, computational science, data science, economics, health studies, humanities, informatics, law, medicine, and biomedicine. USI is a young and lively university, a hub of opportunity open to the world where students are offered quality interdisciplinary education. They can be fully engaged and take center stage, and where our researchers can count on having space to pursue their initiative freely. Around 2800 students and about 800 professors and researchers, hailing from over 100 countries, convene every day on the three campuses in Lugano, Mendrisio, and Bellinzona. The campuses' relatively small size encourages the free flow and open exchange of ideas within the academic community. USI encourages faculty, students, and researchers to develop their potential and appreciates their curiosity and willingness to experiment with new ways of thinking, learning, teaching, and working. Established in 1996, USI is continually evolving, always taking on new challenges while remaining true to its three guiding principles: quality, openness, and responsibility. International faculty, small size, dynamic attitude and informal atmosphere, adequate infrastructures, connections to the labor market, and a favorable context within the Swiss university system are all elements that are much appreciated by students and make for a rewarding study experience USI. USI offers quality and interdisciplinary study curricula where theory and practice go hand in hand. Students play an essential role: small-sized classes are the ideal venue for exercising in groups and for each student to express him/herself and thus develop their personalities and uniqueness. Direct interaction with faculty enables students to discover unexpected realities within a cosmopolitan and friendly environment open to international careers. Classes are taught in Italian, mainly in the Bachelor's programs, and English in most Master's programs, in doctoral programs, and Executive education. Like all other accredited Swiss universities, USI diplomas – comply with the ECTS system and are therefore acknowledged at the European level. Università Della Svizzera Italiana (USI) engages in many national and international research programs in a network with partners in several countries. Research at USI is marked by ambitious projects seeking new developments and new solutions through interdisciplinary perspectives in several areas, namely: Architecture Computational science Communication Data science Economics Health studies Humanities Informatics Law Medicine and biomedicine USI's flexible structure allows for decisions to be made swiftly, thus enabling the fluid exchange of ideas. Researchers at the University are provided with unfettered and open access to the world to develop projects independently. In line with the Swiss dual educational system, USI engages mainly in fundamental research though it conducts also applied research and projects. USI hosts around 120 public events on a wide range of topics related to its educational, research, and knowledge transfer activities.
