The College strives to provide students with a balanced and holistic education to equip them to live fulfilling and purposeful lives. At Nagle, the critical partnership is the one that exists between the student, family, and the school, with the fundamental goal being the success of the student. Great partnerships are built upon mutual respect, good communication, and an understanding of the importance of working together.
The College motto, "For Others," encourages our students to explore the meaningful contribution their education will enable and empower them to make in their journey through life.
The College has identified five values that draw inspiration from Venerable Nano Nagle and Blessed Edmund Rice. These values articulate the mission of Nagle Catholic College.
The basis of the crest is the Celtic Cross. The cross is the most recognizable symbol of Christianity, and its basis is God's unconditional love for us. This Celtic form of the cross reminds us of the Irish origins of our founding Orders. The star represents Mary, Star of the Sea, patroness of Stella Maris College. The star was also the central device in the crest of St. Patrick's College.
On 11 February 1994, Bishop Justin Bianchini commissioned Nagle Catholic College as a Catholic school within Geraldton's Diocese.
While the life of the College formally commenced on that day, its story goes back a lot further – to 1891 when the Presentation Sisters opened Stella Maris College. Some thirty-five years later, in 1926, St. Patrick's College was opened by the Christian Brothers. For the ensuing sixty-eight years, these two boarding schools continued to cater to the educational needs of the young women and men of Geraldton and its surrounding areas.
In the late 1980s, the two schools' authorities agreed that a combination of their efforts and resources would enable them to better cater to their students than would the maintenance of two separate schools. It was from that time that the planning of the new coeducational secondary boarding school began. This planning resulted in the opening of Nagle Catholic College, founded on the riches of the history and the traditions of the two good schools in which it has its foundations.
From whom the College takes its name, Nano Nagle founded the Presentation Sisters in Ireland in 1775. Their work was to offer the girls education, formation, and care, which was available only to those of the higher reaches of society. Inspired by their work, Edmund Rice founded the Christian Brothers in 1808. From the start, the Presentation Sisters and the Christian Brothers worked closely together in the country of their foundation. Again, a century and a half later, the two Orders worked closely together worlds away from their foundations, to cater to the educational needs of the young people of Geraldton Diocese. So, in the name of Nagle Catholic College, the work of both founding Orders is remembered.
The school's crest, too, provides an ongoing reminder of our ancestry and the continuing challenge that faces all connected with Nagle Catholic College. Our motto, 'For Others', reminds us that the challenge of all education is to educate young men and women whose mission in life is to develop their talents and abilities to be able to use them for the good of others.
Our history, our crest, and our motto lay the foundation for the very challenging and exciting educational program for which Nagle Catholic College exists.
