Hubbard's School, formerly known as Hubbard's Academy, has been in continuous operation in a variety of inner-city premises since 1952, having deserved an enviable reputation for providing excellence in education. Its namesake, Mr. Godfrey Hubbard, a local entrepreneur, a brilliant mathematician, and an innovative teacher, successfully sought and developed clear explanations for difficult mathematical and scientific concepts and processes. He was an author of several Mathematic textbooks. Mr. Hubbard created a unique approach for teaching and learning mathematics at the secondary level. This was adopted by all Queensland secondary schools in the 1970s. Partnering him in business in 1952 and remaining as Hubbard's Principal until January 1995 was Dr. Robert ('Doc'), Squire. Doc was the author of numerous secondary science textbooks, which were of such a high standard that they remained in use throughout Queensland for more than a decade. He was a war veteran, a pilot, an outstanding academic, involved in establishing the Gatton Campus of the University of Queensland, became a Fellow of the Australian College of Education, and a champion tennis player, representing Australia as a veteran. Hubbard's initially operated solely as an After School Tutoring institution named Hubbard's Academy. From 1953, Hubbard's Academy accepted students on a full-year basis. The full-year study load was used to prepare and provide the necessary educational support to excel in Senior External Examinations. For many years this was the sole purpose of Hubbard's School. In 1999 Hubbard's School expanded its scope to offer adults the opportunity to continue with tertiary education through the Certificate IV in Adult Tertiary Preparation. As of 2007, the School also operated a Tutoring Program and a variety of other courses. Hubbard's School aims to deliver a challenging and rewarding curriculum in a nurturing, academic environment. We do this by providing a positive education experience, which allows each student to experience breakthrough success. Our ethos is to strive to reignite each student's learning journey by helping them to:

We aim to facilitate our students' development to become independent and confident learners who positively contribute to society. We champion "U-centric" learning focused on the personal strategic achievements of our students. At Hubbard's School, a very high rate of success has been established:

• more than 90% of students achieve university entry annually
• two-thirds of these are generally offered their first tertiary preference and
• 100% success rate achieved in consecutive years.

The syllabus followed for each subject is the Senior External Syllabus prescribed by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA). Lessons, homework, regular classroom tests, and practice examinations are a vital part of the academic year at Hubbard's School.Parent/teacher interviews are conducted immediately after the May, and August reports are issued. Through the Senior External Examinations, the QCAA is responsible for the final and total assessment of the student's mastery of the subjects and senior certificates' consequent issue. Students must nominate to sit for Senior External Examinations by mid-July. A per subject nomination fee is payable at the time of nomination. These examinations commence in late October and continue into November. The examinations are conducted at several centers around Brisbane and regional Queensland. Interstate and international venues may also be arranged. A timetable for these examinations is issued at the beginning of each calendar year. The Senior Certificates are posted on a Friday, approximately one week before Christmas. This affords the student time to change tertiary preferences if desired. Since 2006, students in Year 10 have worked towards a new school qualification, the Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE). The first QCE's were awarded to eligible students in 2008. To be eligible for the QCE, students must complete 20 credits, e.g., five subjects. 5 Sound Achievements gives a Rank of 81, which equates to an OP 10. Each SA or better from the Senior External Examination receives a credit of 4
