Years 5 to 6 students begin to experience leadership opportunities as they are exposed to different programs and an increased number of subjects within the College. As they engage in House activities and leadership opportunities, students continue to grow in self-confidence and greater independence. The beginning of secondary education at Heathdale sees our students growing as independent, self-disciplined, creative, and enthusiastic learners who take on greater responsibility for their learning. This is central to the vision of all our secondary school curriculum programs.
As our Years 9 and 10 students enter the Senior School, they experience an increase in their subjects' choice and specialization. Adopting a mindset of personal growth and an awareness of personal responsibility for their progress are indicators of a student who is maturing in their approach to study.
This is a time for students to begin contemplating their vocational intentions. They are encouraged to consider which subjects interest them and what they would like to pursue in the post-secondary years. To help guide students, our Pathways Coordinator initiates conversations that will continue through to Year 12. To ensure our College Purpose continues to be met through these higher levels, we include three different streams through Years 10 to 12, including VCE, VET, and VCAL.
Throughout Years 11 and 12, the students begin to focus on their vocational choices and, more importantly, on how they are to become responsible citizens. The years of discovery and refinement of talents and passions assist students with their subject selections. Career counseling further helps them make informed decisions about their study options within the VCE, VET, and VCAL streams.
