Saint Louis University is an excellent, missionary, and transformative educational institution zealous in developing human resources to be creative, competent, socially involved and imbued with the Christian Spirit.
The University offers a wide range of financial aid options for students. SLU provides several awards based on merit in recognition of academic excellence. SLU also offers need-based financial aid in the form of work-study and institutional grants for sports and the arts. Also, SLU participates in government and privately funded scholarships and loans.
The SLU Main library has grown enormously into a massive building—the six-story Msgr. Vath Library Building on Bonifacio Campus. Towering over the other buildings in the SLU main campus and resembling the big heart of the early CICM fathers and sisters who gave the people of the Cordillera and Northern Luzon quality Catholic education, the library building now houses a varied collection of print, non-print, electronic and internet-based resources. Today, the Saint Louis University (SLU) Libraries have expanded with a satellite library named Devesse Library in Maryheights Campus. With the ongoing computerization and reorganization, the SLU Libraries are set to meet the challenges of library preservation and conservation, automation, collaboration, and networking endeavor.
The Saint Louis University Center for Culture and the Arts (SLU-CCA) was established in May 1993 during the presidency of Fr. Joseph Van den Daelen, who believed that in addition to providing quality education, SLU should also be a place where art is not only appreciated and nurtured but where our cultural heritage is preserved and perpetuated.
The CCA is a creative and excellent center that harnesses and optimizes the potentials of both student-artists and educators through effective programs that promote and develop their artistic talents, specifically in the performing arts. With its aim to maximize participation in SLU's growing population, a new performing arts group was strategically formed.
The CCA has five resident performing groups that frequently present competent and top-notch performances representing the areas of music, theater, and dance. They are the SLU Glee Club, SLU Dance Troupe, SLU Children's Dance Troupe, Tanghalang SLU, and the SLU Chamber Ensemble.
The center opens its audition for new members to discover new, highly-qualified candidates from the SLU students every year. Aside from holistic development programs, the center provides scholarship benefits to artists who display exemplary performance in all SLU – CCA activities within and outside the campus. The CCA is the most active performing group in Baguio City with regular full-length musical plays, straight plays, concerts, and other excellent performances produced every year and have received an outstanding review from its audience not only from SLU but from the Baguio community as well.
The SLU Glee Club and SLU Dance Troupe made special cultural tours in California, the USA in 2000, Jinan University in China in 2004, and Belgium in 2011. The CCA extends its services to the SLU dependents and students through its yearly CCA Summer Arts Workshop. This activity encourages the students to enhance and pursue their love of music, dance, theater arts, and arts and crafts. The CCA does not limit its services within SLU; for the past years, the CCA participates in the Arts Camp and Developmental Encampment under the leadership of Sunflower Children's Center that gives a workshop to different children institutions in Metro Manila.
Indeed, through the years, CCA remains a significant venue for the education and training of artists and as a seat for exploring and experiencing the arts. With the unswerving support of our beloved University President Rev. Fr.Jessie Hechanova, the administration and its strategically formed groups, the Center for Culture and the Arts will continue to render its share towards a new dawn of artistic creativity excellence.
In commitment to the CICM promotion of the integrity of creation and under its core value of social involvement, SLU has taken concrete steps to take care of the environment and mitigate the severe effects of global warming. SLU has vigorously implemented environment-friendly practices inside the campus through its innovative "clean and green" projects that include garbage segregation, the plastic-free Wednesday, etc., in support of the DENR environmental campaigns.
Also, SLU is known in the Benguet province for its comprehensive re-forestation agenda. Over the years, SLU has planted thousands of trees through its tree planting activities in its adopted communities. The number of trees is expected to increase in the coming years through SLU's continuous efforts of "greening" endeavors for a sustainable future. More than restoring the natural environment, SLU's re-forestation active campaign provides livelihood to the local communities. SLU-LES won the Platinum Award in the 2011 International Schools Cyberfair in the environmental awareness category.
Alongside the religious education formally given in the classrooms, students are given ample chances to participate in spiritual-liturgical and missionary-pastoral activities in the University under the Parish Team's guidance and animation. Among the regular activities meant to sustain the students' Christian growth and maturity are recollections, seminars, Bible study, outreach programs, social action campaigns, and even one-on-one spiritual direction. Liturgical services that are offered are the daily Masses, Weddings, Baptisms, and Confessions. Moreover, various parish organizations are open for those who wish to commit themselves to specific services under the parish's programs and objectives.
