Delaware Valley University is an independent, nonprofit university located in Doylestown, Pa. Originally an agricultural college, DelVal was founded in 1896 and has grown into an academically rigorous interdisciplinary college dedicated to the sciences and liberal arts. As our founder, Joseph Krauskopf, once said, we take "science with practice" seriously. Today, our more than 1,000 acres of land is a testament to our mission to provide a functional learning environment for our students, serving as an outdoor classroom for several of our study fields.
DelVal has more than 25 undergraduate majors in the natural sciences, business, and humanities. We offer six master's programs, a doctoral degree, and several adult education courses. From business and information management and policy studies to Educational Leadership (Ed.D.) and an MBA program, DelVal offers students a wide array of undergraduate degrees, graduate degrees, and continuing education degree programs.
Our university boasts small class sizes, an applied and theoretical approach to learning, and individualized attention. Our student-faculty ratio is 15:1, allowing for a very close-knit campus. We encourage an environment where faculty know our students by name, forging strong mentoring relationships with them.
In our required Experience360 program, an experiential learning component of the curriculum, our students learn by doing—a philosophy and a practice ingrained in and tailored to each of the majors we offer. We strive to mobilize all students, staff, and faculty to find solutions to our time's most pressing issues, whether in the classroom or out in the real world. Our school cultivates a community of inspiring, intelligent and imaginative thinkers who can create new initiatives.
We are inspired by our founder's ideals, who, in 1896, emphasized respect for all people and ideas, who honored knowledge with practice, progress, and the common good. Our historical commitment to experiential learning integrates theory and practice. It prepares undergraduate and graduate students to meet the challenges of a complex global environment and engage in lifelong learning. We provide students with the requisite skills and a spirit of inquiry that enrich and inform their lives, prepare them to pursue meaningful careers, and fulfill societal, community, and family responsibilities.
Delaware Valley University promises to give our students the knowledge and experience to tackle our time's most critical issues. The passionate students and faculty energize the learning community we are building. They bring unique thoughts and dreams to a shared DelVal experience that helps them achieve their goals.
You are balancing work, family, community obligations, and more. That is why flexible scheduling for part-time students is at the heart of the DelVal experience. Add to that small classes and an intimate campus, which provides opportunities to build connections with your faculty and fellow students, leading to life-changing career growth.
DelVal offers rigorous curricula in the agricultural, life, physical and environmental sciences, humanities, liberal arts, and business. Our curricula are grounded in a commitment to applied and experiential learning. Co-curricular activities are a vital part of the total college experience. DelVal wants you to explore interests outside the classroom, and we provide the clubs, organizations, and community service projects to do just that.
With more than 70 student clubs, organizations, and Greek chapters, it is easy to find community and have fun at DelVal.DelVal athletes compete in the NCAA Division III Middle States Athletic Conference, with 22 intercollegiate sports and many intramural programs. Whether on- or off-campus, you will find a home here at DelVal. Check out your residence hall options, or get help finding an apartment in the Doylestown area.
At DelVal, you will engage the passions you already have. However, the fun begins when you explore interests you do not yet know you have, like preserving wildlife habitats or shooting photos or bringing smiles to the elderly. We call it finding your "Plus One." With over 70 student organizations, a full calendar of events, and, of course, an outstanding, diverse, and energized student community, we are sure you will find yours.
Today, Delaware Valley University sits on more than 1,100 acres across three locations and is a four-year, multi-disciplinary college with more than 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students. It offers rich programs in the sciences and a variety of programs in business and the humanities, offering more than 25 undergraduate majors, six master's programs, a doctoral program, and a variety of complementary adult education courses.
Classes are small, averaging 15 students, and DelVal offers $20 million in scholarships and financial aid each year. In 2010, DelVal secured a $30 million gift from the Warwick Foundation. The gift was the largest in college history and included cash and 398 acres of land in Jamison, Pa. About 15 minutes from the main campus, that land was once the home of the Gemmill family, who started and administered the Warwick Foundation.
Under the leadership of Dr. Joseph Brosnan, who was president from 2007 to 2016, DelVal was involved in implementing an ambitious strategic plan. The plan transformed the institution into a university. On July 1, 2016, Dr. Maria Gallo became DelVal's 13th—and first female—president.
