According to the rating of the agrarian institutions of higher education (III-IV levels of accreditation), Mykolayiv National Agrarian University is the fourth. It won the honorary title of "The Leader in Modern Science and Education."
More than 80 scientific-pedagogical workers have state awards and titles of honor given by the Ministry of Education and Science and Ministry of agrarian policy of Ukraine. There are eight full-time workers chosen as academics of State Branch Science Academies and five professors chosen as members of International Science Academies.
Main objectives and directions of Mykolayiv National Agrarian University activity following the Development Concept are the following:
- University development as a regional, educational, and scientific center of training highly skilled specialists of different educational levels for agro-industrial complex, science, culture, economy, and social activities of Ukraine.
- Increasing the level of University staff potential and scientific school development.
- Development of current perspective evaluation system of the intellectual labor market.
- Opening new specialties and specializations for staff training according to labor market needs.
- Creating the system of education quality control, improvement of university education, and educational activity technology.
- Improvement of the University regulatory system, administration structure, and methods, educational work system
- Development of material and technical basis and social university infrastructure.
- Expanding the field of University international cooperation.
The Mykolayiv National Agrarian University library is a scientific, educational, informational, and cultural subdivision of the university. It provides the students, post-graduate students, and University staff with the necessary literature and documents.
The creation of the university began in 1984 when the first branch of Odesa Agricultural Institute was established in Mykolayiv. First, the agronomy and zoo engineering faculties were founded. Later, in 1987 the economic faculty and the faculty of mechanization of agriculture were established. They provided specialized training in four specialties: agricultural science, zoo engineering, agricultural mechanization, and accounting. In 1991 the department of management of organizations was established, and later the professional training faculty was opened. In 2002 training of highly qualified experts in international management began.
In 1991 Mykolayiv branch of Odesa Agricultural Institute became an independent Mykolayiv Agricultural Institute. In 1999 Mykolayiv State Agrarian Institute acquired the status of Mykolayiv State Agrarian Academy and later university. Considering the considerable progress in staff training of higher qualification, in 2002, Mykolayiv State Agrarian Academy achieved Mykolayiv State Agrarian University's status. As of 1991, the number of students was 2232 and the teaching staff – 126. Nowadays the number of students amounted to 8000, and the teaching staff – to 427.
By resolution of the Ukrainian State Accreditation Committee, the university was given the highest – the fourth level of accreditation, which gives it the right to train experts on daytime and distant basis at the following degrees of education and qualification:
- Bachelor – 4 years.
- Expert – 5 years.
- Master – 5-6 years.
Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on August 19, 2002, № 1208 on the Academy base established Mykolayiv State Agrarian University. According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated September 21, 2012, № 555/2012 to Mykolayiv State Agrarian University, national status was granted. Today Mykolayiv National Agrarian University is a leading educational and research institution of higher education in southern Ukraine.
Mykolayiv National Agrarian University has seven educational buildings, five hostels, and 1132,41 hectares of arable land. Six Institutes are included in the structure of the University: Research Institute of New Agro-industrial Objects and Educational IT, Research Institute of Modern Technologies in the Agro-Industrial Complex, Research and Training Institute of Economics and Management, Mechanic-Technological Research and Training Institute, Research Institute of Innovation Technologies and Agrarian Education Content and Postgraduate Institute. There are ten problem research laboratories, 17 educational and advisory departments in the Mykolayiv region, which have the proper facilities and equipment necessary for the educational process. Twenty-nine departments of the university established 66 branches at production units. The University entrants can attend the training courses at 25 departments of the Pre-University Training Faculty in Mykolayiv Region.
One of the main elements of agricultural activity is an innovative policy formation with strategic and tactical aspects. The goal of the innovative policy is to implement innovations into enterprises' activities for providing optimal workload. There should be two lines:
- Accents on market and customer necessities, which corresponds with the marketing policy of the enterprise.
- Recourses concentration with the help of innovative technologies of labor, material, financial and informative fields.
The innovative policy and its tendency should be realized step by step and correspond with the enterprise's goals. Nowadays, the innovative activity in AIC depends on science, which is put into effect by universities' scientific institutes and educational personnel.
According to Ukrainian culture features, the mechanisms of innovative social climate improvement are:
- Changing of aims from competence into intellectual activity and generation of new knowledge.
- Development of self-education with the accent on creativeness.
- Formation of personal diligence habits in asserting of ideas and thoughts.
- Implementation of arranging cultures of egalitarian types.
- Supporting and encouragement of innovative enterprises and innovative private ideas.
- Increasing the innovative educational level of managers on different stages.
