National Ilan University

National Ilan University (NIU) is the only national university in Yilan County. It marked the highlight of this qualified promotion with projects to expedite high-level research and teaching for new generations. To expand knowledge to a broader scientific community, NIU sets the goal of internationalization as one of its top priorities.
Historically, NIU was one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Taiwan. It was founded in 1926 as Taiwan Provincial Ilan School of Agriculture and Forestry. Following the rapid economic development and industrialization in Taiwan, the school has undertaken a transformation under the changing social and political environment. The school was promoted from a five-year junior college (National Ilan Institute of Agriculture and Technology) to a polytechnic college (National Ilan Institute of Technology). NIU is now a university which offers comprehensive degrees such as BA, BS, MA, MS, and Ph.D. In 2016, NIU celebrated its 90th anniversary, a milestone in higher education history in Taiwan.
National Ilan University (NIU) started as Taiwan Provincial Ilan School of Agriculture & Forestry in 1926. Since then, NIU has maintained its distinguished status in academic as well as in research fields. Currently, NIU is home to the College of Bioresources, College of Engineering, College of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science, and the College of Humanities and Management.
NIU is located in the heart of Yilan City, which is less than an hour's drive from Taipei. NIU has its forest land in Jiaoxi for practical use, forestation, and ecological research. The Ministry of Education permitted the newly established College of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at National Ilan University in October 2005. The College's rudimentary composition comprises the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, and the Institute of Computer Engineering and Information Science. Later in 2007, the College of EECS won approval for the establishment of a Bachelor Program. In 2010, the College founded both the Executive Master Program and the Executive Master Program for "Multimedia Network Communications Digital Learning."
The College of Humanities and Management (CHM) has refined a distinctive vision of management and humanity education. It has three departments, two master programs, 1 EMBA, and one bachelor program of extension education. Foreign Language Department cultivates proficiency in foreign language and culture of students Department of Applied Economics and Management cultivates the world economy strategists of students Department of Leisure Industry, and Health Promotion cultivates the health knowledge in leisure industry of students. The College of Engineering of NIU was founded in the Academic Year of 2003 when the National I-Lan Institute of Technology was promoted to be National I-Lan University. The College is composed of Department of Civil Engineering (DCE), Department of Mechanical Engineering (DME), Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering (DCME), Department of Environmental Engineering (DEE), Department of Electronic Engineering (DErE), Department of Electrical Engineering (DElE) and Graduate Institute of Architecture (GIA).
