The Chalmers University of Technology was founded in 1829 through the will of William Chalmers and is consistently ranked among the top 100 Engineering Universities in the world. Education at Chalmers is strongly linked to advanced research in areas of particular strength. Over a third of the students enrolled in our Master's Programmes are international students. Fee-paying students have numerous scholarship opportunities. The duration for all programs is two years, and upon completion of studies, candidates will be granted a Master's degree, MSc.
The Chalmers University of Technology conducts research and offers education in technology, science, shipping, and architecture with a sustainable future as its global vision. Chalmers is well-known for providing an effective environment for innovation and has 13 departments. Graphene Flagship, a FET Flagship initiative by the European Commission, is coordinated by Chalmers. Situated in Gothenburg, Sweden, Chalmers has 10,300 full-time students and 3,100 employees.
As a university of technology and science, our mission is to produce and spread knowledge, expertise, and solutions that benefit everyone: individuals and society. Education that prepares our students for the future, research at a high international level, and close, open, and meticulously crafted partnerships with industry and commerce and the public sectors make this possible. As a university and a partner whose appeal is recognized, we can work with others to make a real difference for a sustainable future.
Chalmers Professional Education is Chalmers University of Technology's organization for specially tailored education of professionals in the industry. We offer open and in-company educational programs and seminars for directors and co-workers in our main fields of Executive, Industrial engineering, Shipping, Energy, and Built Environment. The programs are designed following the industry's needs and requirements.
The Chalmers University of Technology is a full-scale technological university with scientific depth and interdisciplinary breadth. Curiosity-driven fundamental research is just as natural to us as applied research to solve concrete societal challenges. Our 2,300 researchers, instructors, and doctoral students research everything from the smallest building blocks of matter to systems biology and food products, climate issues, traffic safety, and distant galaxies. They work closely with industry and the public sector in all research. Chalmers also has a robust international air created by exchanges and collaborations with leading universities worldwide.
Chalmers participate in several public events in making science public. Our researchers are each year part of the great Science festival in Gothenburg in springtime, and every week public seminars are held.
We also collaborate with several organizations, such as the Science Centre Universum and Molecular Frontiers, a global effort to promote the understanding and appreciation of molecular science in society. The Göteborg Centre for Public Learning and Understanding of Science, GCPLUS, is a joint initiative between Chalmers and the University of Gothenburg. The focus is on building capacity for global sustainability by conducting research and public outreach.
Chalmers not only stands for excellence in research and education, but we also create meeting places for academia, society, and industry. In close cooperation, we establish the conditions for sustainable development, both locally and globally. It is not enough to train competent engineers and achieve good research results. We must also stimulate entrepreneurs and develop ideas in order for society and enterprises to grow.
Chalmers has an innovation system that helps researchers to discover opportunities for development within their research, convert ideas into a business, and take care of patents and other immaterial rights. Strategic cooperation agreements strengthen ties to our industrial partners. We also want to help decision-makers by providing reliable and easy-to-grasp data to facilitate the change to a sustainable society. We have also been instrumental in founding three science parks, where industry market knowledge meets the desire for innovation and academic expertise.
We take responsibility for the continuous training of qualified personnel, i.e., by offering specially tailored education (external website) of professionals in collaboration with industry and society. We have 3000 annual participants in professional commissioned education. We partner on high technology readiness level, conducting assignments related to the product, process, method development, and governmental investigations.
According to the Leiden Ranking (external website), which measures universities' scientific impact and collaboration, we are outstanding concerning collaboration with industry. According to the UBI Index, our two business incubators are consistently ranked top ten among university-associated incubators worldwide. To reinforce, up-scale, and further strengthen the university's entrepreneurial spirit, we recently consolidated all venture creation activities within one subsidiary company, Chalmers Ventures. The goal is to become even better. And, in the long run, to have all students gain valuable entrepreneurial experience during their studies.
