Making SWU a university to which parents want to send their daughters, for which students want to apply, from which the industry recruits talents, and the members feel ever so proud. Founded in 1961 by the Presbyterian Church of Korea, Seoul Women's University is celebrating its 52nd anniversary. Upon the firm foundation of Bahrom Character Education, the only residential character education program in Korea that began with the birth of SWU, we have been equipping our students with our unique education. As a result, after half a century, SWU is establishing a prestigious women's college.
Such efforts were recognized in 2012. We won several titles and grants from the Ministry of Education, such as the Best Teaching University, University Education Capacity Enhancement Project, and Leading University for Admissions Officer System. We are still striving with the enterprise to realize our full potential to become "the best of the best" teaching university.
Nowadays, however, the colleges in Korea are facing challenges that were never seen before. Moreover, as Free Trade Agreements are being signed, the college market is opening for global competition, pushing local colleges to be more international.
These challenges are telling us to change and innovate. SWU is drawing up plans to bolster our education to engage these challenges with wisdom. Just as there is an old saying, "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together," all the members of SWU would bring all of their strength, wisdom, talent, and prayer together to make a great change during this challenging time. The bodies of SWU will do their best in their given positions, running a glorious race towards SWU's 100th anniversary.
Seoul Women's University pursues to nurture the "Plus-Type Talents," which refers to the people who are harmonious, who value the community, and who trust that "We are smarter than I". To do this, we will continue branding Seoul Women's University's special education by fortifying Bahrom Character Education, embedded by the Christian spirit, not to mention building up the elite education to prepare our students with leading-edge expertise. By doing so, we will stand as a university to which parents want to send their daughters, for which students want to apply, from which the industry recruits talents, and of which the members feel ever so proud.
SWU cultivates female leaders complete with knowledge, virtue, and expertise and contributes to the advancement of the country and humanity by acquiring knowledge and skills viable for the highly-industrialized society driven by IT and building up leadership qualities the Christian faith and national principles of education.
- To foster experts: To guide students to acquire knowledge and skills in their majors and enhance their scientific awareness, critical and holistic thinking skills, and problem-solving skills to make unbiased decisions on objects and phenomena.
- To advocate the Christian faith; To help students uphold moral values underpinned by the Christian faith, cherish humanity and affective maturity, and improve leadership qualities.
- To nurture people of action; To develop students' abilities to adapt, utilize their knowledge, act out democratic values and social justice, create a national culture, and serve international communities.
