The University of Ss. Cyril and Methodius (UCM) provide education in bachelor, master, and doctoral study programs in different fields of the humanities and social sciences, in physiotherapy, teaching, and chemistry and biotechnology. Graduates of mass media and marketing communication and physiotherapy have been ranked among the most successful labor market experts. Graduates of the natural sciences faculty usually find their occupations in the field, and the best ones continue in doctoral studies. The graduates of our university are provided with solid fundamentals for practice. Our university is a dynamic and prospective educational institution with exciting and modern study programs. Studying at the University of Ss Cyril and Methodius is an opportunity for students to develop in the whole range of academic, social, and cultural dimensions.
The main aim of UCM is to protect and spread knowledge and to develop education based on scientific knowledge and creative scientific and artistic activities while keeping the national and general human and democratic traditions. UCM has been contributing to the development of education as part of society's culture. Thus, it has improved the scientific, technical, economic, and cultural standards of society. The university is focused on highly qualified graduates' education, mostly in social, economic, medical, legal, natural, humanities, pedagogical and historical sciences.
UCM has been developing a 130 year-long tradition of university education and research in the town of Trnava. And therefore, it is essential that our "alma mater" is soon going to celebrate its establishment's 150th anniversary. Our ambition is to achieve the highest level of quality of education. We have been continually trying to provide our graduates with the conditions that cope with the present labor market demands. We realize the value of practical education in cooperation with partner organizations. Thus we offer the students an opportunity to smooth inclusion into professional spheres in many fields of interest. The expansion of our activities and the implementation of many measures has been rewarding and fruitful. The university status makes excellent demands on pedagogical, research, artistic and managerial work of academic and administrative employees and, of course, on the students' study work. Questions of evaluation and maintaining quality have been increasingly important.
We have to stress the university status every day, also in the context of our social and civil activities. We always have to keep in mind our university's reputation as it is connected with academic ethics. According to a moral code, we are obliged to maintain rules like honesty, justice, and fairness to achieve good relationships, a pleasant working atmosphere, and thus to gain the public's trust at large. The approval of a new ethical code is considered to be very important. It is supposed to be a compass that will help us find a way to cope with the increasing demands of specialized professional education corresponding to the demands of the current labor market and maintain general education, which is essential for producing a new generation of critical thinkers.
The main activity of the university is education. At our university, comprising four faculties and one institute, there are currently 5915 students in 68 accredited study programs, both internal and external. We have been involved in twelve VEGA and six KEGA projects, two projects in Applied research, and four Agency projects for support of research and development. We participate in 5 EU projects; three of them are financed by the European Social Fund in the Operational program of education, and the European Fund of Regional Development supports two of them. We have also participated in three international scientific research projects since 1 January 2011. There are also eleven grants covered by the town of Trnava. Two projects are in the Central European exchange program for university study in the CEEPUS program, one project of cooperation with the JAVYS Company was initiated in the department of biotechnology at the Faculty of Natural Science UCM, and one project financed by the Orange Foundation has been operating in the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Arts UCM.
