Cherepovets State University was founded as an integration of two institutions of higher learning. It became the only classic University in Vologda region. Today it is the center of research, education, and culture in the region. Cherepovets State University is a member of the Eurasian Association of Universities, leading classic Russia and CIS's classic universities. There are over 6000 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate students and 500 faculty members at the University. 68% of the faculty are Ph.D. and D.Sc. The University also offers postgraduate studies, doctoral studies, and a dissertation council. The University carries out theoretical and applied research in engineering, education, humanities, and natural sciences. According to evaluations of business leaders and heads of Human Resources of leading Russian companies, Cherepovets State University is one of Russia's 25 best educational institutions. This rating is based on the criteria of performance and the graduates' level of wages (Report of All-Russian Public Opinion Center, 2008). In 2016 CSU was recognized as a significant institution of higher learning by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
