University of the East

The roots of the University of the East can be traced back to two rented rooms on Dasmarinas Street, Manila, where 110 students enrolled in Certified Public Accountant (CPA) review classes in September 1946, barely two months after the Philippines acquired its independence. Led by Dr. Francisco T. Dalupan Sr., the group of business educators that initiated the classes, made it their objective to help the country, then still reeling from the effects of war. Out of the 110 students, four made it to top places in the CPA board examinations in 1947.
Encouraged by this initial success, Dr. Dalupan and his colleagues opened the Philippine College of Commerce and Business Administration (PCCBA) along R. Papa St. in Sampaloc, Manila, to 350 students in the summer of 1947. The following year, as more students enrolled and more academic units were organized, the PCCBA moved to the main campus on Claro M. Recto Avenue.
The governance of the University resides in the Board of Trustees, which exercises the corporate powers of the University and administers its business, property, and other affairs. The University's functions and responsibilities are either academic or administrative.
Several academic programs in UE Manila and UE Caloocan are officially accredited by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities-Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) or the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges, and Universities (PAASCU) as of July 31, 2017.
The UE Graduate School has seven accredited programs: Master in Education, Level II and Doctor of Education, Doctor of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Education, Master of Library and Information Sciences, Master in Public Administration, and Master of Business Administration, all Level II Reaccredited (all effective December 2016 to November 2019). Two other GS programs, Master of Science in Construction Management and Master in Information Management, are on Candidate Status (May 2016 to May 2018).
The UE College of Dentistry's Doctor of Dentistry program is Level II Reaccredited (valid up to 2020). The UE College of Arts and Sciences-Manila has five accredited programs: Liberal Arts, Level IV Reaccredited (effective October 2015 to October 2020) Bachelor of Science (BS) in Mathematics, Level III Reaccredited (April 2017 to April 2020) BS Biology, Level III Reaccredited (April 2017 to April 2020) BS Psychology, Level III Reaccredited (April 2017 to April 2020) and BS Hotel and Restaurant Management, Level II Reaccredited (September 2015 to May 2020). Four other CAS Manila programs are on Candidate Status: Bachelor of Arts (AB) in Broadcasting, AB Journalism, Bachelor of Library and Information Science, and BS Tourism Management.
The UE College of Business Administration-Manila has two accredited programs: the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) program, Level IV Reaccredited (October 2015 to October 2020) and BS Accountancy, Level II Reaccredited (July 2016 to May 2021). CBA Manila's BS Accounting Technology program, meanwhile, is on Candidate status.
The UE College of Computer Studies and Systems, which is certified by the Commission on Higher Education as a Center of Excellence in Information Technology Education, has two accredited programs: BS Computer Science, Level III Reaccredited (April 2013 to January 2017, but already visited for possible Level IV accreditation in November 2016) and BS Information Technology, Level II Reaccredited (July 2016 to May 2021). The CCSS' BS Information Systems program, meanwhile, is on Candidate Status.
The UE College of Education's BS Elementary Education and BS Secondary Education programs are both Level II Reaccredited (both valid from February 2016 to December 2020), while BS Nutrition and Dietetics are under Candidate Status (but up for Level I formal visit on September 7-8, 2017). Under CEduc, the UE Elementary and Secondary Laboratory Schools' (ESLS) Basic Education program is Level I Accredited (December 2016 to November 2019).
Two of the UE College of Engineering-Manila's programs are accredited: BS Civil Engineering, Level II Reaccredited (September 2015 to May 2020), and BS Electrical Engineering, Level I Accredited (September 2015 to September 2018). Meanwhile, CEng'g Manila's BS Mechanical Engineering and BS Computer Engineering programs are on Candidate Status.
The UE College of Arts and Sciences-Caloocan has three accredited programs: AB Communication Arts, Level III Reaccredited (effective April 2015 to May 2017) BS Tourism Management, Level I Accredited, and BS Hotel and Restaurant Management, Level I Accredited (both effective December 2016 to November 2019).
The UE College of Business Administration-Caloocan has three accredited programs: BS Accountancy and BS Business Administration, both Level III Reaccredited Status (both effective April 2015 to May 2017) and BS Accounting Technology, Level I Accredited (December 2016 to November 2019).
The UE College of Engineering-Caloocan has six accredited programs: BS Computer Engineering, Level III Reaccredited Status (April 2015 to May 2017) BS in Electrical Engineering, Level II Reaccredited (January 2015 to May 2017) BS Mechanical Engineering, Level II Reaccredited (January 2015 to May 2017) BS in Civil Engineering, Level II Reaccredited (January 2015 to May 2017) BS Information Technology, Level I Accredited and BS Computer Science, Level I Accredited Status (the latter two both effective December 2016 to November 2019).
The UE College of Fine Arts, Architecture, and Design's Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising Arts and Painting program is Level I Accredited (December 2016 to November 2019). Its BS Interior Design is on Candidate status (January 2015 to November 2016). Under CAS Caloocan, the UE Elementary and High School Department-Caloocan's Basic Education program is Level I Accredited (December 2016 to November 2019).
Now on its 71st year (as of September 25, 2017), the University of the East will continue to be a formidable academic institution n the service of youth, country, and God―one that can and will always affirm that, indeed, Tomorrow Begins in the East.
